2. a custom dress

3. dye the dress

Do not dye fabric. Either get a purple bridesmaid gown from a local shop or have a dress custom made on Etsy.

Or you can look for quincenera dress shops. They have tons of ball gowns in different colors.

Depending on when your wedding is, you can also look at prom gowns (after prom sales are always a great time to look for formal dresses). Most of which will be cheaper than a traditional wedding dress and come in so many fun colors.

You could look at prom or pageant dresses!

This is an online place for a group of makers outside NYC. I remember seeing this purple gown. My husband's niece decided on a dress from them, and it was as promised, stitching and fabric what you would expect for the $600 of her choice, much better than any David's she found in the same price range. And good service.

Aside from this, have you ever seen a dress with a detachable train? Essentially an overskirts, same or coordinated fabric as gown, that is shaped for the extra length in back. They go in and out of popularity. I did not want the gown tain on my Maggie Sottero a few years back. And had a custom order to make it floor length. And had a removable train made with additional material from the gown maker. I did not want to deal with a busted train all night, and wanted to be able to go out on the stone patio and in the garden. It attached with 5 tiny hooks, attached to tiny loops hidden in the lace at the back waist. If you find a purple evening dress or wedding dress you like, but with no train, in a salon or from a dressmaker, local to you or on Etsy, that is a choice. A lot of people do not think to go to a professional dress or costume maker, but this is a great time for it.
