When is it ok, to look for your wedding dress?? A year out, 6 months?? when is it “too early”?

A year out is recommended. Too early and you could have dress regret, new styles come out, or large weight fluctuations. Much later and you could risk not finding something in time.

I agree. I started looking for mine a little while back and we're just about to be a year out next month. Once I found my dress, I stopped looking. It'll be custom made so I have to make sure that I have plenty of time for measurements, the company's production time, the shipping time frame and any alterations I'll need to get done afterwards. I would definitely recommend a year out.

There isn’t really a wrong answer of too early. I bought mine before I met my fiancé because I saw it and liked it. I knew I would get married just was waiting on the right one. I got it two years ago and our wedding is next month 🤷🏾‍♀️

I bought my dress 11 months out. It will arrive 5 months after I ordered and 6 months before the wedding.
I'd stress to not go any later than 8 months.

The seamstress I found is putting in a corset back for this reason (plus the dress that I have had a broken zipper anyway). My weight has never fluctuated a lot and I don't plan on trying to lose weight, but I was really nervous about 5 lb up or down which happens all the time without even trying.

I'm more than a year out (9.12.2020). I'm big on just getting the key stuff out of the way, because I want to hang the dress up in the closet and not really think about it until a month or to out to make sure everything's still good.

    Cheers! Happy dress hunting!

I got mine about 18 months out because my mum offered to buy it. I'd say a year is a better time frame

I’d say definitely a year out, that way even if it takes some time to find something, you still have time for it to be shipped in. I got mine 13 months out and it doesn’t come in until 10 weeks before the wedding and then it’s alterations time...so be sure that you leave time for alterations as well!

I ordered mine 2 weeks ago because they say it takes 6 months to order and my wedding is in February. You also have to make sure you have enough time for alterations!

A year is probably safe! But its never too early to have fun looking around.

I got mine 20 months out. It will arrive in October (2019) and my wedding is September 2020. This works for me because I do not fluctuate in weight enough to need/affect alterations. I am also extremely particular and knew exactly what I wanted my dress to look like. It is also easier not to have dress regrets if you stop shopping after you buy the first one.

That being said, this would not work for everyone. Some of my bridesmaids are like me and want to look at dresses now but one of my bridesmaids wants to lose some weight (and I know she will and fluctuates more than the others) so I keep telling them to wait.

I got my dress 11 months out from my wedding, which worked out since it was going to take around 4-6 months to get the dress. I now have my dress and I am 3.5 months out, which gives me time to get alterations!

A year before the wedding is a great time to start looking and purchase your wedding dress. This gives you more options and time for alterations!

I got mine about 2 years before. I fell in love with it once I put it on. I already knew my style though WAY before I put an actual dress on. You can look and see if you like a certain style right now but I will agree with style changes and weight fluctuations, they may change. If you do start to look now I suggest just finding what you like versus what you don't. ie: Do you want tulle? Do What kind of silhouette do you want? Do you want it flashy or do you want it to be simple?

Damn you all are scaring the crap out of me. My commitment ceremony is 11 months out and I didn’t even think about looking for dresses for another few months. I’m rapidly losing weight without trying and may have an adrenal or pituitary gland leaking cortisol, and I’ll need chemo or surgery to remove it if the test results agree with all my docs’ suspicions. Once I’m treated my entire body shape will drastically change, so there’s absolutely no point in looking til a month after surgery (it’s a brain surgery so recovery time) and I can’t see a doc til October cause it’s a rare disease thing.

Guess I have like 6 months to work with 🤷🏻‍♀️

I bought mine about 2 years before my wedding is to take place. I'm so glad I did because that's one less expense i have to think about besides alterations. If you get it early dont look at others after or you might get dress regret! I just had a surprise baby and gotta lose some weight to fit into it again but if I dont they'll just alter it no big deal.
