Wedding Drinking...how much is too much?

KenWay, on August 17, 2010 at 10:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 32

So my bar will be open because we will have a very dull party without it because all our friends and family love themselves some cocktails. As the bride and groom there is some debate on how much "we" should be drinking that night lol...I am paying for it so i feel like i should be able to drink what I like !!! :-) What you ladies think...3-4 drink minimum for me? What about yourself...to drink or not to drink...that is the question!

I say not to drink. and if you do drink, do it in moderation. 3-4 drinks would get me drunk so clearly i'm not much of a drinker. no judgement though, its totally your day!

I will have a couple at my wedding (like you said, we're paying for it, we should be able to enjoy it) but I'm a lightweight, and I really don't want to get smashed on my wedding night, so a 4 drink max for me, and they HAVE to be very very spread out.

Personally, I get more hungover than drunk when I drink, and I want to be in good shape for the bubble bath and too-tired-for-sex wedding night. What's your drink of choice? I was thinking about just drinking a few glasses of champagne.

Ya it depends on your tolerance level. I'd say try to stick to one type of drink for the most part, and give yourself breaks; you can always switch to some n/a champagne in between alcoholic beverages (nobody has to know :-P .i would think it would be easy to go overboard with all the excitement and celebration! I'm drinking at mine but gonna make sure to only stay at the level where I feel it slightly..I don't want to be drunk-faced for candid photo shots! :-) And don't want to be visibly plastered when talking to older relatives. And of course want to remember the night lol! Bottom line as long as ur not stumbling or slurring your words u should be good, do what you feel is best! :-)

I drank very moderately at our wedding, because I was driving us home. (We're talking a couple of glasses of low-alcohol punch, several hours before we left the venue.) My wife drank more than I did, but she was still far from drunk. Then again, at our ages (56 and 41), the thrill of getting drunk has rather worn off.

I don't get drunk easy. My tolerance is very high lol. Im talking about I would need two shots of patron and maybe 3 tequila sunrises before I reached the point of being "drunk" but it just kills me that our parents think we shouldn't drink at all lol. I am thinking to myself I will be almost a 27 year old woman you guys want us to stand around and watch everyone else take advantage of the open bar but we can't? ...hmmmm not happening lol...the limit may be best. @ Turtle, My drink of choice is actually wine. But usually wine makes me tired so I was thinking about sticking to the cocktails to keep me awake :-)

I had 3 drinks, and I would have had more, but I was so TIRED! I had a beer after the pics were done and we were about to go to to the reception, a shot of tequila that the best man INSISTED I take, and of course, one of my favourite cocktails, a pornstar, which I thoroughly enjoyed! For those wondering WTH a pornstar is, it is like liquid candy and very dangerous (doesn't taste like alcohol at all). It is made with equal parts raspberry sour puss and curacao with sprite. SO yummy!

I am definitely drinking. I will probably have a cocktail before just for my nerves. I will not drink so much that I am a drunken mess. I will be a bit tipsy though I am sure.

I probably wont due to the fact I have never had a drink in my life. But in your case I say if you want to do it! It's your wedding.

I have to agree that drinking in moderation is best. I once went to an open bar wedding and although everything was beautiful, everyone was way too drunk to even appreciate the moment. The bride even fell three times and by 9pm (reception ended at 12am) she was in the ladies room wanting to puke.... And the groom, he got up on stage and started playing the band's drums when they were on a break, and not to mention that he was responsible for the bride falling one of the times! It was total chaos!!...... So YES drinking in moderation is KEY. Smiley smile

P.S. I think the limit idea is good. Only you know your limit and how many is too much.

I drank. I didn't get sh!t faced but I enjoyed myself. I had quite a few glasses of champagne although I handled myself as if I were sober. I wasn't falling over..I could hold conversations..I wasn't emotional or angry or stupid drunk but I was enjoying myself. It didn't inhibit my hubby or myself from enjoying our "time" after the wedding either. We were tired yes..but there is A LOT of running around on the day of (at least for us there was with pictures all over the city etc.) I don't like the brides/grooms that can't hold a conversation or fall over themselves on the dance floor but if you want to have a good time. Have a good time. Just be a grown up about it and keep a level head Smiley smile

I am so totally gettin' my drink on. I've asked my fiance to take it easy at our reception (which is from 7-10) because he tends to be the first one to be all drunk and slurry. So NOT appropriate while my 75-year-old dad, my boss, etc are around. We plan on rounding up the rowdines and going bar-hopping in our formalwear after the reception, so that's when I'll be drinking up.

LOL Nicci, yeah that type of behavior would be so embarassing, if you are spilling drinks, and not able to hold a conversation.
