Wedding 'fails' (along the lines of pinterest fails...)

kLo, on December 14, 2014 at 11:12 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 20

Did anyone have any total wedding fails? I'll start with ours, which was our wedding cake. I printed off a photo of the inspiration cake, and the patisserie chef who has been in the business for 20 years assured me that he could do it. I printed off a 8x11.5 photo, so he could easily see it. On the left is what he said he could do, on the right is what we got. When we got up to cut the cake and saw it for the first time, we both burst out laughing! At that point there is nothing else that you can really do but laugh- and feel thankful that the cake cutting was early in the evening!!

Anyone else have any funny attempt stories?

LOL! This is too funny. I'm glad you could laugh about it on the day of.

I had a fail of a hairstyle. My hairstylist must have been sleep deprived on my wedding day as she could not get my hair anywhere close to what we agreed to at the trial and it looked horrible. I finally had to just tell her to stop because I was late for makeup and she was about to push my entire schedule off the rails.

Thankfully my makeup artist was able to call in an "emergency" hair stylist. He completely re-did my hair and did a great job. But it was so stressful, and I had to pay for two hairstyles + a hefty "rush" fee for the second guy.

My fail was letting everyone get ready for us. Because everyone was in and out, one of the bridesmaid's husband grabbed my (small) jewelry box which had the wedding rings in them (my nephew/ring bearer was going to carry the box down the aisle) so DH and I had to use "stand in" rings for the ceremony (because after 10 minutes I said IDJAF let's go!!). The rings were located during cocktail hour and we put them on one another privately during the reception. (DH and my sister/MOH were livid with the couple because the jewelry box has my name engraved on it so there is no good reason why it should have gotten mistaken for one of the BM's boxes but I was just happy the rings were located)

Miss to Mrs, I was more frustrated than scared. I knew that the rings were there 30 minutes before. I'm just glad I had decided to wait until right before my RB went down the aisle to take off my engagement ring or I wouldn't have even noticed until it was time for the rings! I joked to DH that I think the BM and her husband orchestrated the whole thing because our wedding was better than their wedding (I helped plan their May 2014 wedding in 7 weeks and since I planned our wedding in 21 months, we had way more details and personalized items at our wedding)

We did a destination wedding so I didn't get to choose the vendors I used for the most part since the resort handled all of it. Everything turned out perfectly except for the cake which looked absolutely nothing like what I told them. We laughed about it and moved on LOL

Second Picture: Cake inspiration (not the actual one I showed them but close)

I was in a wedding this summer where my friend left her brother in charge of working with the DJ because him and the DJ are good friends. She wanted to walk down the isle to Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years." Instead she got, "I would walk 500 Miles." I'm still betting that her brother did it on purpose, but he swears he just misheard her. Luckily she laughed and played it off well.

We had several hiccups throughout the day. First of all it was a somewhat destination wedding, both of our families were traveling from an hour and a half away from opposite sides. My brother who was a bridesman forgot his pants for his suit! So my mom was freaking out and told me, and stressed me out. The bride shouldn't be concerned about things that are out of her control. He missed out on the pictures the morning of as did the rest of my brothers who were all bridesmen and the ring bearer, until his friend (also from our town) was able to pick them up before they came to the wedding. My mom said I should probably just ask him to stand down and have someone else do the candle reading. Then the groomsmen forgot to place the unity candle at the alter so my DH had to interrupt the officiant and hold up the whole ceremony for a few minutes while one of the guys grabbed our candle from the back. It was funny but also gave us a moment to take in the beautiful view of all our guests and all of the flowers. My mom forgot the cake topper, so our florist improvised and put real flowers on our cake, looked better afterwards so that was fine. The DJ almost forgot the dollar dance so it was later in the night than we expected, MOH had to remind him, and then for some reasons our guests didn't really grasp the concept and I was standing up there awkwardly swaying by myself for awhile and DH danced with the ladies who paid to dance with him. lol Also my bag with touch up make up and reception shoes was left in the car so I went barefoot for the rest of the night. Oh and one of my bridesmaids never showed up to the reception. You would think all of these things would cause a control freak bride like me to have a major meltdown but it was totally fine and still a great day. http://vimeo.com/110931938

We met with a DJ I found from Yelp and had amazing reviews. She was also $375 dollars (first warning sign) - turns out she is well over 60 and toothless. Poor lady - she started off the meeting saying "dont judge a book by its cover" and whistled through her missing teeth the entire time. We have since dubbed her Toothless Cindy. Always meet with your vendors!

I definitely do feel bad for her.... :-(

He is the one in the picture. Couldn't drive yet, my whole family came up for the whole weekend and the wedding wasn't until Sunday, they lived an hour and a half away and didn't find out until the morning of that they were missing. Here is a picture of the whole wedding party. My bridesmen escorted my bridesmaids down the aisle.

I wish I had a pic of this, but when DH went to throw the garter, he threw it too high and it hit one of the lighting fixtures. He had to do a total re-do! I was too busy laughing my ass off to care.

Haha, well thank you for adding to and joining in on the laugh! I'm just trying to picture walking own the aisle to '500 miles', that's something that your friend and her brother will laugh about for years to come.

Since the cake is just a side piece it's easy to laugh at- but the hair fiasco and ring hunt would increase the heart rate! Natassia, I really like your cake with the flowers, I'm glad that it turned out well for you!

Our fail was the start of our ceremony. The celebrant welcomed everyone to the wedding celebration of Shannon and Keith.

Except my husband's name is Kevin.

You can see me on the video hissing "Kevin! His name is bloody Kevin" through my teeth.

Oh and I nearly forgot - I had the wrong visa for getting married in the UK so got detained by immigration on arrival for 7 hours and had to sit in a room with two guys from Ghana who kept asking to use my phone and a Pakistani cigarette smuggler. Then I had to leave to country to apply for the correct visa.

That was pretty bad. I cried. A LOT.

I wanted to wait to cut the cake. It was so fucking hot, the cake started visibly melting.
