Wedding Favor Dreamcatchers?

Marlene, on June 15, 2015 at 7:48 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 21

We've been trying to think of what favors to give for our wedding. We don't want to do items from the dollar store that'll just be thrown away or candy favors. We have about 60-70 ppl that will be coming and we are on a TIGHT budget. So I came up with the idea of making my own dream catchers. Our theme is Pink and Black so I used those colors. Attached will be a little card saying something like "Thank you for watching one of our dreams come true. Our wish is that this dream catcher will help some of yours come through too". Still working on that. I bought the materials today to start. I made my first one and wanted some thoughts so I posted a picture of it (my 1st ever)....As far as time - it took me about 30 minutes to make this one. Once my kids are in bed I have plenty of time to them lol What you guys think? Good idea for favors? What favors have you all decided on giving?

I think that's actually cute. Don't they usually have some beads, though? Pink and black for men though won't work.

I agree with @snarky. While I think they are cute, there's no chance FH would let me take one home/hang it up in our bedroom. I think you will end up with a lot of leftover ones (after putting in a lot of effort).

Okay...I'll preface this with the fact that I'm not trying to get all negative on you, but I don't know if you know what dream catchers are for. You or a very close loved one make them to literally catch bad dreams like a spiders web. They are highly personal, and often incorporate "charms" that ward off evil spirits. Not really a wedding item, more something you would make for an infant.

Yea they're cute but not a great idea. I think at half an hour each you will waste AN ENTIRE WORK week on these. A week!! And your date is coming up quickly!

Cute but as a guest I wouldn't have a use for it and would feel guilty if u spent that much time making them. Favors aren't a requirement so if you have a tight budget just skip them.

Wow I'm really impressed by your DIY skills however, If you are truly on a tight budget I would skip favors all together as they aren't necessary.

I would hang it on my rear view mirror probably. Most favors don't have a "use."

DoubleJ079 - I do appreciate your comment however I do know exactly what dream catchers are for. I am very nature spirited and my daughters are part Native American. A Dreamcatcher is made to catch the negative dreams and allow the good dreams to pass through down through the feathers. Then once the sun light shines in it "burns" the bad dreams away. They are for both children and adults.

Snarky - As far as the colors - I would be doing full black ones also for the male guests to choose. Some dream catchers have beads and charms and some do not. All depends on the styles and designs. My fiancé was the one that said to make the first with both the colors to see how it comes out.

Thank you Marlene for clarifying all that a dream catcher does!

I love the idea and the one you did looks great.

I love this idea! I think it is super creative and unique. If you want to have a favor, have one that you want to give. I wouldn't focus on what the guests want, there is no way that you are going to give one thing that everyone loves.

I honestly wouldn't have a use for this and I don't think any of your guests would either. The only favors that usually go over well are edible items.

Hmmm I'm not sure if I would put this anywhere but I like cute things, I'd probably hang it somewhere like in my office at work. Could you do black and white for the men maybe?

I like that it's unique and original and because your daughters are native american I think that incorporates them nicely.

Also with DIYs the more you do them, the faster they get, so if you have a couple hours every night you could probably get about 8-10 done a night, so if it's something you enjoy and doesn't stress you out, go for it!
