Wedding Favors for a Large Wedding

*The Future Mrs. Frank*, on September 2, 2012 at 1:25 AM Posted in Planning 1 26

My Fiance & I have about 200 people on our guest list and it may end up increasing. We're literally on a shoestring budget, but we would like to get favors for our guests. Anyone have some good, super-inexpensive favor ideas?

Bookmarks! You can add a picture or poem, etc. Create them using a template for word on the Microsoft website. Then print them on card stock and laminate. Very inexpensive and it will be something for them to keep forever. You can also add a ribbon if you'd like by punching a hole at the top.

Door hangers is another suggestion. I've done these. They were very inexpensive and fun to do!

Our weddings are about the same size and I've been doing a similar search- you can get a LOT of things for about $1 per person (which adds up to about $200 but unfortunately it won't get too much cheaper). I suggest a candy bar (people love edible gifts- don't spend all that money on things people won't use) and you can do this for cheap if you get the containers from a craft store and decorate the table yourself.

A lot of printing companies will do things like chapstick, pens, mints, etc. all for less than $1. I really like Samantha's bookmark suggestion- but be careful where and what type of material you purchase because it can sneakingly add up on you if you're not careful.

I've also seen some girls get really crafty and bake a batch of goodies for people to take home in little containers.

Favors are not necessary so if you're on a budget with that large of a guest list (are you sure you wouldn't rather enjoy a smaller wedding?)

FYI- Candy buffets are NOT cheap, even with wal-mart or dollar store containers, the candy alone is EXPENSIVE. Even if on sale. You're talking needing pounds and pounds of candy for 200 people. I went to a wedding, and the girl had three types of M&M's, hershey kisses, and gummy bears, she told me she spent $200 on candy, and there honestly wasn't a whole lot.

There are very cheap places to get candy online (and in specific colors)- definitely not in the store, however I wasn't thinking about 200 people when I posted that I have to admit. I'll see if I can find the links- I know someone here posted about it a little while ago.

I used to be a resident assistant at school and I bought my hall of 35 residents candy for a program and it cost me nearly my entire budget for the semester. That was name-brand candy though.

I ended up doing magnets from vistaprint. We used the free offers when we would get them and just had to pay for shipping.

I'm honestly not sure what your budget is, but like Nicole said, it would be hard to do it less than $200 i think...even if you're making everything yourself. If your budget doesn't allow that, then definitely don't stress over it- because favors aren't a necessity.

What is your theme/colors/etc, maybe that could help us come up with ideas?

I agree with the other girls in that favors can get expensive and little things will add up quickly! Edible favors IMO are the way to go. I'm having about 90 guests (hopefully fewer) and I planned on baking cookies and buying cute (and cheap) pink/yellow paper or plastic goodie bags to put on the tables. That way it'll help add color to the decor and it'll keep costs down.

I want those candy websites! Lol. I've settled on a candy buffet only because it's a Halloween wedding, and what is Halloween without candy??? But some candy will last a year (nerds, stuff like that) so I will be buying some of it at discount this year after the holiday.

Like Shannah said, You can stalk up on candy after different holidays. I just wouldn't get chocolate if your wedding is outdoors in June. We bought up a bunch of silver and blue candy after Hanukkah last year for my daughters Jan. wedding. Most of it was 50 to 75% off and worked the colors perfectly.

Shannah I can't remember off the top of my head and I'm leaving shortly for the rest of the day (Labor Day plans) but I received an oriental trading wedding mag in the mail and they have a lot there (you can check them out online) http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/browse/processRequest.do?Ntx=mode%2bmatchallpartial&sp=true&categoryFromSearch=true&Ntk=all&requestURI=viewEndecaCategory&tabId=1&Ns=GROSS_MARGIN%7c1&Ipp=16&N=388621+98&No=32&rd=wedding%20candy

I'm sure there are more if you do a search through the old topics on the forums... I would if I have time but I've gotta run for now- hope everyone enjoys the day off!

I hate to jump on the 'nothing under 200$' bandwagon, but we had a similar situation and I made personalized glass coasters for everyone (that also will double as place cards, thanx to my MOH being a genius!) I shopped at

    www.weddingfavorsunlimited.com

bought the glass coasters (the ones I got personally were $.87 for sets of 2, already packaged, wrapped in ribbon and ready to go as is) I then (along w/ my MOH) printed out on regular printer paper 2 sets of inserts to go into the coasters (they held a small like 1.5X2" pic)... We used one, took an engagement photo, printed text over it saying 'thanks for sharing our special day', our names and the date... Then on the 2nd one I used another engagement pic w/ a space for Name:___ Table #:___ and they will double as the place cards. So after taking all the sets apart, putting one of each print out in each set, filling out name/table number, repackaging & re-ribboning... Bam! Done deal, they look awesome & the whole ordeal was under $200!

I like the idea of cookies. They are SUPER cheap (you can easily make 200-400 cookies for under 50$ total.) Plus I think guests will appreciate an edible favor.

Edit: I was looking at Nicole C.'s link and there are large lollipops on there for 12.75/24. They are personalizable (they print your message on them). That's 50c/favor and super cute. Not sure what your theme is though.

Edible is the best. Put 2 cookies in a gift bag and tie it with ribbon. You can always buy the cookies from Costco or Sam's. It would be alot easier and probably cheaper than making your own. Def. less stressful. I saw a picture on Pinterest that showed 2 oreos cookies dipped in white chocolate and drizzled with the colors in the wedding. She placed two cookies in each bag. It was so cute.

You could home-make cookies and freeze them ahead of time. Many cookies will last in the freezer for a long time which could be fun and you wouldn't have to make them all at once or during crunch time.

We actually had H's aunt and cousin make all our cookies, which doubled as favors for us. It was great because she loved to do it and we had a wonderful time eating them.

To follow with the bookmark idea, I saw these on pinterest, and they're super cute. I believe they're stamped or drawn on. Which would be easy to do, and then hole punch and ribbon! You could go to wal-mart and steal all the chips in your wedding colors! Lol.

We have the same sizeish wedding and we will be spending about $200. Both FH and I's families are very German and we love sauerkraut, so we planted cabbage and make our own sauerkraut. We were able to find pint size mason jar cases at buy 2, get 1 free.. so we spend about $110 on those and we will be spending less than $50 on fabric to decorate the mason jars. The only other thing we need to get are the labels for the jars..

Honestly? I wouldn't do them if it's a monetary stretch. You're providing a lovely night out; that's really enough.
