Wedding Favors-- what are y'all doing? How much are you spending?

Erin, on May 28, 2018 at 12:17 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 31

Hey y'all, in attempting to budget out the wedding, favors have accidentally turned into a big ticket item. All the ideas we think people would really like/use are a little too expensive, and all the things we can afford seem like stuff our guests will throw away the minute they get home. Are any of you guys really excited about the favors you're giving, or are you trying something different/opting out of favors altogether? Just curious to hear what other couples are doing. Smiley smile

Mine aren't really costing me anything, though they probably cost my grandma a small amount. She is growing succulents and we are going to have them on the table for people.

If they don't take them she's just going to take them to the senior center plant sale so it works out.

We're also going to have a s'more bar but I'm not really sure that counts as a favor.

My now husband and I (got married yesterday) had a tree in our unity ceremony so my mom found a place that sold small trees in bulk and so we gave away trees. They went over really well and everyone said they had never seen anything like that before. We went through a local place that was selling them for fairly cheap. We were going to do small potted plants before we found the trees so maybe look into local businesses that may give you a discount for your wedding. Hope this helps!

My FH and I will be doing infused olive oil! We will be ordering jars in bulk online and getting the olive oil at a wholesale club.

We're not doing traditional favors. Each side of our families has been affected by cancer and we just lost someone who would have been a guest to cancer this month. On each place setting, there will be a card on top advising our guests that in lieu of favors, we are donating to the American Cancer Society in everyone's honor. At this point we're figuring out how much we want to donate per guest, etc.

My stepdad has a screen printing business so he’s doing koozies for us for free! We’re very fortunate he’s doing this for us. Otherwise, we would likely skip favors and make a donation to a charity in honor of our guests instead. 😊

Because we're doing a second-line at the wedding, we are getting handkerchiefs for everyone to use during it. So at least they'll be useful during the evening and people can bring them home, of course. I don't think I will bother with personalizing them, so they'll be about $1.50 Each.

    Whats a second line?

We're doing blankets for the ceremony, and then everyone gets to keep them. Again, useful during the ceremony, and who doesn't need another fuzzy blanket?

We r going for something alittle different since our guest list is small, under 50. For some strange reason I really want a 4 tier cake, so to justify it we will give cake as favors. Will order personilzed to go cake boxes and to go cake will be our favors.

A second-line is a small parade led by a brass band that is traditional in New Orleans. They're done at funerals, weddings, celebrations of all kinds. Usually, the parade goes down the street and any passersby can join. In the case of a wedding, the bride and groom lead carrying umbrellas, followed by the band, then guests waving handkerchiefs and dancing. Sometimes people do it to walk the guests from ceremony to reception venue or at the end of the night. This will be our recessional after the ceremony and we're actually doing it all on our venue property (To save on the police escort and permit fee).

Thought about these cute Disney candles we saw but thinking it might get too expensive so might just forgo favors unless we find something we like that’s reasonable

Were doing antique key bottle openers. I got 100 of them for like $40, and we’re attaching tags that say, “they key to happiness is love...and the ability to open a bottle.” Smiley smile

We were originally going to do the keys PP mentioned, but recently our venue changed policy to no longer allow glass bottles.

We're incorporating squirrels throughout our wedding, and I found these adorable little paper boxes online. We're going to put two Lindor truffles inside--one of each of our favorite flavors. I'm also going to write guests' names and table numbers on the outside so they double as escort cards. I ordered them in pearly white rather than purple. 150 boxes cost $45, 300 truffles will cost $80.
