Wedding Fit with broken leg!

Natalie, on May 3, 2017 at 2:40 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 20

I recently got into my wedding workout groove and started Barre classes! Yay!!! However, this passed Sunday I fell and broke my right leg in three places. Now I'm couch bound for a few months. I'm doing my best to keep to a strict diet but wanted to see if anyone else had some tips for working out/losing weight while recovering. I'm hoping I'll be back to normal before my 9/2/17 wedding. Thanks in advance for any help!

Well my husband has rheumatoid arthritis and really can't work out at all aside from swimming. What the doctor told him was obviously as much moment as his body is able but to drop the weight he has to do low/no carbs, at least for a little while to drop this 40 pounds he's looking to get rid of. I'm not too sure if that's of any help since you already said you're on a strict diet. I would also look into arm exercises maybe?? That's something

Eat healthy, drink lots of water, and get a ton of sleep!

I hope you get on the road to recovery. That looks like a pretty bad break! )o:

You poor thing. You can still do upper body with some small dumb bells and abdominal exercises. Make sure you move any joint not in the cast that you are allowed to so you don't stiffen up. Wishing you a fast recovery.

Sorry about your leg!!! you should definitely be able to still work out the rest of the things- and just be careful with what you eat!

    Get well soon!

Oh no!! So sorry about your leg. Weight loss is primarily diet so definitely cut out sugars and bad carbs (candy, soda, cake, pasta, potatoes, bread, etc.) stick to lean protein and a lot of green veggies.

There was a girl at my kickboxing gym that broke her leg and they were able to modify everything for her. She did punches and upper body stuff. Obviously you don't have to go to a gym but maybe you could just do upper body work outs! Punches are a great way to get your heart rate up!

Thanks everyone! It's pretty painful, my momma is here to take care of me and I'm on plenty of meds. I think the arm workouts are where I'll start once I'm up to it. As far diet goes mom knows what I can and can't have and is being amazing and keeping me strict. Thanks for the support!

If I remember correctly, there is an exercise physiologist (I think) named Theresa Tapp. She originally started her exercises when she was confined to a wheelchair, in order to lose weight. her website is www.t-tapp.com maybe she has something that you can do.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry about your leg! In addition to eating healthy there are several yoga videos online as well as classes that do chair yoga, designed for people with limited mobility whether temporary or permanent as well as knee issues. This could be a really good way to stay relatively active during your recovery. Good luck!

Ouch! I agree with pp who have said arm workouts. If you take short rests between reps it's sort of like doing low cardio. That's what I was told in the home gym manual anyway lol. Hope you get better than you think!

Oh no! Smiley sad As PP are saying try upper body workouts when you're feeling up to it. This might be a little TMI but some pain meds can back things up. So in addition to drinking a ton of water, increase your fiber too!

Oh no! Feel better! If you keep your diet on track then you should be good to go for when you hit the gym (eat plenty of protein!)
