Wedding flowers are so expensive!

Casey, on April 18, 2018 at 1:34 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 39

What are you ladies doing for your bouquets? I went to the florist yesterday and it was going to be $3,000 for everything!

I'm thinking of just doing a bouquet for myself and then for the tables. Think of something else for the card table, gift table and bridesmaids, but what?

Dried flowers! My bridal bouquet is $50. And they still smell good! They aren't much more fragile than fresh flowers, either.

Check out sams club and Costco. They wedding packages and are super reasonable. If your hot just doing bouquets, center pieces and boutonnières. Sams clubs site even has a little video on how they look when they get shipped. Worth taking a look if you want affordable real flowers

Less flowers and more greenery helps with costs. An arbor full of greenery, bridal bouquet with minimal flowers, four BM and 1 FG bouquets with minimal flowers, estimated 11-15 centerpieces (some will have one flower with greenery, some no flowers), simple "draped" greenery on FH and my chair comes to about half what you were quoted for our florals. We are keeping things very simple, mostly greenery and very few flowers. Of course location depends on pricing, but we are not in a cheap area for weddings.

Note: another poster in another forum did mention garland can get expensive though. Loose greenery is more budget friendly. In my experience anyway.

That's why we didn't do floral centerpieces. Our flowers are limited to my bouquet, MOH bouquet, bouts and corsages, and a limited number of decorative flowers in ceramic jugs that will be used in both the ceremony and reception. In total we spent $318 on flowers.

Check with local grocery stores that have floral sections. They are often very reasonably priced.

We are DIYing our flowers and using some fake ones. My bouquet will be real flowers and we will have real greenery (mostly eucalyptus) in various places for decoration. The bridesmaids will be carrying lanterns with fake flowers and LED candles as their "bouquet". We are planning on doing the boutineers for the groomsmen and FH with the fake flowers as well. We don't plan on having corsages because I don't see a point. My mom is planning on ordering bulk eucalyptus from an online supplier that is local to the Seattle area that many florists use and I believe that she is making my bouquet as well (lots of greenery and in season simple flowers). Below is a picture of the first lantern that my mom put together and then the inspiration for our centerpieces.

We ended up going with a spread out bouquet for the girls, and mine is the more expensive. Tables we did the fish bowls (not really sure there exact name) with dyed water and floating candles on a mirror. Saved alot for us. We still ended up spending about $650.

My bouquet is part of our package and everything is already decorated so I have no idea on cost but $3,000 seems like a ton! That's the entire cost of our ceremony and reception all inclusive before taxes and fees

I'm thinking of painting wine bottles and using some baby's breath or hydrangeas from sams club to line the ceremony aisle then use them as added decor at the reception. For centerpieces also really interested in sola wood flowers and live greens from sams.

Could you make the bridesmaids ones? Even just really small? I was in a wedding and the bride made hers, they were babies breath in a small bouquet with a ribbon. They looked cute! Have you talked to places like grocery stores, costco, sams club? They do bouquets with delivery and are usually cheaper.

I'm using artificial and an etsy a shop called Mlleartsy. She's doimg my bouquet, 6 BM's, 2 mother crosages and 9 bouts for $756. She's located in Canada so shipping is $56 but she has been super resposnive, is giving me exactly what I want and described every flower she plans on using and will take pics during production. My venue includes fresh flower centerpieces but if it hadn't I was going to go super simple with rustic metal buckets filled with dried baby breaths from costco.

I've recently decided I have to have calla lilies so I'm DIYng these for my BMs and splurging a little on a big bouquet for myself. Centerpieces will be candles in lanterns, which we'll also use to line the aisle for the ceremony. I might decide to add flowers for the arbor that can be repurposed for our sweetheart table.

I just cannot bare the thought of spending a lot of money on flowers. I keep seeing 10%-20% of your budget should go to flowers? That's just nuts to me.

ETA: I guess we'll also need petals for the FGs and a bout for FH. We'll probably skip them for the groomsmen. In total, I'm hoping all this won't be more than $300-$350.

You can use potted plants for centerpieces and added decor. Mums are pretty inexpensive and would look great for an October wedding.

As others said,Costco or Samsclub is great if you decide to diy. I encourage you to shop around for florists first though. I got proposal from two florists with brick and mortar stores and for the same amount of flowers there was an $1,000 difference (4K to 5K). Then I met a florist who works out of her home. She shops wholesale and Her overhead cost is low so she passes on the savings to her brides! She is charging me about $1,500 for everything I want!

FYI that’s a pretty average cost for flowers.
You could ask your florist about less expensive flowers/greens to help keep cost down? Cut out parent/grandparent corsages and bouts, too.

Flowers are expensive, especially if you are looking for specific types of flowers that may or may not be in season. Then add in labor and it can get pricey really quickly. My friend is a florist and she's ordering whatever is available in my color scheme and making them at my home as a wedding gift to make it cheaper. It's saving me about 50-60% not paying for labor.
