Wedding flowers - budget?

Jessica, on May 16, 2016 at 8:47 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 19

Hi gals! I'm really trying to stick to a $1200 or less budget for flowers. I'll need 15 table pieces, 2 bouquets and 3 boutonnière. Plus ceremony flowers. I'm ok to use more greenery than flowers (like laurel, eucalyptus ) but I just feel like every florist I talk to is quoting me $2000 plus. Any suggestions on low cost floral? Help please :-)

Are you flexible on the types of flowers? Usually they can suggest what will be in season (and thus cheapest). Also try fuller flowers like hydrangea which are less expensive but take up lots of volume (and are beautiful). Keep searching for more florists, too. I just signed a contract for mine last Friday (my bouquet, 4 BM bouquets, 7 bouts and 2 hand corsages for $450).

Bloominous.com should be able to work in budget - as long as you don't mind DIY. I'm using them and I have the same budget as you Smiley smile

I'm actually skipping boutineers to cut down a little on costs. The men will have a pocket square instead.

For our tables, we did cut flowers that were putting ñ mason jars ourselves. It saved like $400. If you're ok with not having big table arrangements, that could be a good option

Location may help, I was quoted $500 for 3 bouquets, 3 bouts, 12 aisle decorations (to double as centerpieces) using red roses and calla lilies.

Location, time of year, and flowers used can drastically impact costs.

I made 5" gold boxes and my aunt planted garden flowers in them. This was the inspiration picture. We got quoted 3k. Nope. Not doing it. Instead I'm having the florist do only the bridal party flowers. Saved us 2k or so!

We're doing Bloominous! They set you up with a florist who answers literally any silly question, and they rearrange their packages to fit your wedding. I feel like it's a halfway between DIY and hiring a florist. We were quoted under $1000 (my bouquet, 6 bridesmaids bouquet, 7 boutineers, and 15 centerpieces) but still need to add a few loose flowers/petals for extra decorations, and greenery for the arbor.

I wanted to do DIY to save money but ended up finding a lovely local florist who could work with my budget.

I would check with a couple more places. a lot of places in the town wouldn't work with me unless I was in the thousands.

My quote is under $400 with tax included. I'm

Getting speciality flowers (peonies/dahlias) as well.

    What we are getting:

    1 larger bride bouquet

    4 bridesmaids bouquets

    1 bout.

    6 centerpieces

1 large bag rose petals (for flower girls)

2 loose flowers for top of cake

I think scaling that to your package would be under 1k easily. They are charging $22 each for our centerpieces. The biggest chunk is my bouquet :3

If you don't mind doing a little DIY, then you can buy real flowers at wholesale and make the centerpieces.

I'm actually making everything (centerpieces, bridesmaid's bouquets, bouts, and aisle decor) for approximately $350, so saving close to $1,000 total. The only thing I'm having professional done is my bouquet.

Holy Moly! I spent $275 on my flowers. I got my bouquet and then bought dried lavender for the bridesmaids and used shot gun shells and baby's breathe for the flowers inside. I had purple status and baby's breathe for decoration. for corsages i did one white rose with baby's breathe. Flowers were not my priority but I'm sure there are cheaper choices.

Floral designers, like any other designers, cost money. Arranging flowers and floral design are two different animals. It is not easy, and most people cannot do it (which is why I make a good living doing what I do). What you're being quoted -- $2,000 -- for two bouquets (one of which will be a bridal bouquet that will be photographed over and over again on your wedding day), three bouts, 15 centerpieces, and ceremony decor is not unreasonable. The only advice I can give you is this: make two of your centerpieces do double duty at your ceremony (or make four or six of them decorate your ceremony space).

Silks? It's been proven, time and time again, that they are less attractive and more expensive than the real deal.

If you want to DIY, there are companies who will advertise their faux "wholesale" prices hoping to draw you in with the "anyone can do it" sales pitch. I know what I pay for wholesale stems, and I know what they charge a customer while calling it "wholesale". You're not getting wholesale -- not by a long shot -- with Fifty Flowers or anyone else who is selling to the general public. Unless you have a valid Tax ID number, nobody will sell you stems at a true wholesale price.

Go to a florist and tell them what you have to spend. If they have good reviews, they will want to create pieces for you that are worthy of photographing and placing on their websites. Or, try and look at photos and reproduce what you love with your honor attendants. I promise you, it's nowhere near as easy as the "You Tube" DIYers make it seem (in fact, I've watched several of these DIYers make arrangements that were probably dead 20 minutes after they turned their cameras off). The best advice I can give you is to be honest with you florist. If they are legitimate, they can create the amount of pieces you're asking for -- in your color scheme -- at your $1200 price point.

Another thing to look at is putting the bouquets in vases and using them as the centerpieces on two of the tables.

It's the centerpieces that are killing you. Ask them for inexpensive options. My bouts are only $8 FYI. They shouldn't be more than that.

I was thinking about not doing boutineers also to cute down on floral expenses. They seem so pointless to me but I'm sure if that's "proper etiquette". What do you guys think?

We're actually skipping flowers on our tables and just doing candles and a mirrored plate. We got everything for 12 tables for 250
