Wedding flowers!?

Sierra, on March 9, 2017 at 1:26 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 27

What route did you guys go for your wedding decorations.. mainly the flowers.

This will be one of the bigger expenses and of course I am trying to save money!

Has anyone used any of the online sites for ordering flowers, Sams Club, DIY, or just used a regular florist?

I really want to save money on this but I also would rather spend the money if its going to big too big of a hassle.

Also about how much did you spend in comparison to your budget?

    Mrs. Fall Bride:

If you don't mind me asking..... how much was your overall budget?

Ditto to what Mrs. Fall Bride said to the "t". I used a florist for everything, and 5% of my total budget was spent on flowers. I'm lazy, and have/had no plans to DIY a thing.

My venue is making my bouquet but I'm ordering flowers from Sams for my centerpieces and going simple.

I'm using sams club and a local flower market. We are doing lots of greenery with roses and peonies and it's the only way to have the peonies I want. I have a florist friend that gave me a list of the flowers and greenery I need to complete my look and total cost will be about $400.

To go this route, can't have your sights set on extravagant looks. You have to have simple in mind or it will look DIY and you will be overwhelmed. Try a test batch from sams or costco for about $75 to see if you can arrange a bridal bouquet. Usually 2 dozen roses are about $60 and greenery at a grocery store is $5-10

I'm really into DIY and crafting, but there is no way in hell I'm going to put that much stress on myself right before the wedding. Look into grocery stores in your area that have a floral department to do your arrangements.

I am taking on the challenge of diy florals with real flowers. I will be ordering everything from Sams club for less than $400 and will have bouquets, boutonnieres, and centerpieces. I've done a lot of research and mock ups of what I want so I feel confident

For my centerpieces, I'm using silk flower bouquets off eBay (~$4 each). For my boutonnieres, I've made my own using silk flowers off eBay and Michaels (~$2 each). I'm still about 6 months out from my wedding, but I've got the bulk of my flowers all figured out.

For my bridesmaids and bridal bouquet, I plan on going to the grocery store a day or two before my wedding. I know it sounds like a lot of hassle, but I've done a couple of practice runs and the bouquets have turned out great. I also got in touch with the florist at the grocery store and told her the type of flowers I want to have ordered for that day. All this will cost me less than $300.

I've attached a pic of my DIY boutonniere.

Flowers are one of the things I would never consider DIYing because it has to be done in such a short time frame before the wedding. No room for trial and error. If you want to DIY your pretty much have to do fake.

Our flowers (through a florist) are $2k, and this includes a lot of greenery (generally cheaper) and ceremony/reception are in the same location (less to decorate).

Just ask yourself if you want to be perfecting bouquets and centerpieces the day before your wedding. I don't! At least get the bouquets done professionally.

Flowers were not super important to me, so I knew I didn't want to spend a ton on them. My venue already provided non-floral centerpieces, so I only need my bouquet, 4 BM bouquets, 7 bouts and 2 hand corsages. At first I looked at fake flowers, thinking they'd be the cheapest, then a girlfriend referred me to the Florist she used for her wedding 2 years before and said they were really reasonable. They were! I got real flowers, gorgeous real flowers might I add, for less money than I would have paid for the fakes. So just some food for thought - look into Florists in your area b/c their prices may surprise you, in a good way!

Also, my total for all of the above, including delivery, was $450. I'm in the Tampa area.

ETA: Here is my bouquet. As you can see, it's a nice, full bouquet filled with a variety of flowers. My Florist was probably one of my best "deals" of the entire wedding.

We have not booked yet but were likely going to a grocery store floural dept. I don't want to spend alot of money on flowers (less than $1000) but I also know I do not have the skill to try to put them together myself. Check out your local grocery store, they should be able to put the centerpieces and bouquets together and deliver them to the venue that day for a reasonable price.

I ended up using a florist even with a tiny budget. I explored the grocery store route, explored the sams club delivery route, considered eco flowers. At the end of the day I didn't want to work on my wedding week so contacted my now florist, gave her my tiny budget, and she told me what she can do for it. I know nothing about flowers so aside from telling her my budget and colors, I stayed out of the decision in flowers. I would recommend the same for you. Trust a florist to do their job, give them a budget and let them recommend based on their expertise. I didn't know the names of half the flowers we're using and am surprised she can do it for my budget.

I spent about 5% as well. I worked with my florist within my budget. I definitely wouldn't have DIYed there is too much stress before a wedding to worry about putting all the flowers together in a short amount of time and not having them die.

About 8 percent of our budget went to flowers. I had my bouquet, my MOH bouquet; 2 nose gay bouquets for the moms; 2 wrist corsages for the grandmas; 5 varying boutonnieres for the groom, BM, fathers, and grandpa; 1 flower crown; rose petals for the aisle; a few flowers on the chupa; garland for the welcome table; garland for our place card doors; garland and flowers for the sweetheart table; palm trees for reception; 8 centerpieces; and lanterns around the reception. I think thats it...

(Rather than share pics, here's my BAM cause I'm vain and obsessed with my decor lol https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/its-beachy-pro-bam/13c479804d440d63.html )
