My fiance and I are planning to get married may/June 2017. With 28 people on our guest list. We are going for our house this year hopefully move into a house end of the year latest. Our budget is 2000 since it will be hard trying to save for both. I got my visa paid off again it had 1000 on it. So thinking we might use that for the wedding like I'll buy something then pay it off.

I am thinking caterering for wedding reception since some includes tables and linen but I'm looking for caterer that will do it all for like $20 a person. Anyone in Aurora /Newmarket Ontario area that knows a catering place this cheap?

Any advice on how to do it all for 2000 dollars?

Thank you

So sell some things you don't need anymore. Please don't do a stag and doe. It's not just tacky where Emily is - it's just tacky.

OP, you can go to the clerk, or find an officiant and do a sweet little wedding for your parents, siblings and you. You can do that for 1000.00, with an hour of photography.

That's all I got. Don't do a stag and doe, don't ask for donations (donations are for charity). Do what you can afford given that you're trying to buy a house.

    I'm out.

Stag/doe parties are to celebrate your upcoming union, not to help you pay for your wedding. Your initial thought of it being tacky to turn it into a fundraiser is correct, stick to that.

To be honest, if you are having a hard time finding 2 grand for a wedding, you're going to be better off going to the courthouse and having a nice dinner afterwards. Not to trying to be mean, just realistic. Ask most brides on here and they will say everything cost more than initially expected. If you are set on having a wedding celebration, wait until you can save some money.

So then have the wedding you can with $1000-$2000. If that means immediate family only for a nice lunch after the ceremony, that's fine! Stag and Does are quite tacky even in places where they are common because you are asking others to pay for your wedding. Lots of couples pay for their own weddings now. It is not unusual.

Another thing is I'm fine with BBQ wedding reception at someone's backyard or ours once get the house but my fiancé thinks bbq weddings or backyard weddings are tacky and hillbillie. When to me as long as we can eat and take pictures the cheapest way possibly I'm okay with it. I don't know how we are going to compromise but we have to come to some conclusion.

Maybe you should consider a cake and punch reception. You don't need to provide a meal unless your reception is at mealtime. If your wedding were at 1 or 2 with an afternoon reception that finished before dinnertime, it is ok to just serve punch, cake, and some finger foods if you'd like (trays from Costco, grocery stores, etc). I think $20 pp would go far for that kind of a reception.
