Wedding Fund Versus Any Gifts

Shana, on March 19, 2020 at 12:16 AM Posted in Registry 0 15

Ladies, do you know of any fun ways to have a wedding fund versus getting random gifts? We are an older couple--late 30s and this is our first wedding. We have everything we need, but want to be nice about this without being tacky.

Any thoughts? Thank you in advance:-)

I would simply not register and hope people get the hint.

Some people put a blurb on their website about how cash gifts are preferred.
Given the economic impacts we will continue to see because of the pandemic, I think a Honeyfund would be tune deaf. When people are losing their lives and livelihood, you don't want to rub in their faces that they're pitching in for "swimming with the dolphins!" or "getting a massage at our resort!"
If you must do a cash registry, there are sites like Zola that lets you list different places where the money would go (student loans, mortgage, etc).

Most registry's now-a-days allow you to add a honeymoon fund or an optional cash fund that you can name whatever you'd like. Some of my friends did a fund for them to get their hardwood floors re-done, another couple did house painting and we also saw one that had a fund for a new bathroom! I think it's a great idea. Especially for couples that already have everything for their homes.

We put a lot of useful gift cards on our registry including- Disney (for our mini-moon), American Airlines, Hertz car rental, Air bnb, Hand & Stone, The Melting Pot and have a honeymoon fund as well. We're in the same boat as you and just don't want more STUFF in our house! We have so much already.

I think a honeymoon fund is completely appropriate as long as you have things in a bunch of different price points. The only "cash fund" item we're registering for it plane tickets, but we set it up so people can contribute any amount they choose. I went to a wedding last year that only had honeymoon items on their registry, but they put cute little descriptions on each one to make it more personal.

We did a Honeyfund (and a small registry). Zola is another one you can use. Just don’t include registry info in your invites, wait until guests ask if you’re registered.

    Aw, super cute! 🐝

It was easy to use and the fee is tiny compared to the convenience.

Since when is late 30s old? lol. Anyway, we had a link for the Knot newlywed fund along with a traditional registry and people got the hint and we ended up with a lot of checks. Honeyfund also works well

Hahahaah well guess all my aunts are saying that to me for getting married at least. I am the oldest ever getting married...actually proud of it and embracing it! I'll be 40 when I get married the first time and I love it!

Thanks for the tip about the registry. HAve an awesome day!

If you wanted to set up Zola or another site that allow cash funds, you could do that and add a small selection of registry gifts for those her prefer to buy you something rather than gifting money (there's always a few). It's also a good way to just upgrade some basics: towels, linens, dinnerware, some decor. If you don't set up one, most will take the hint and just give money, but you will have some that buy you random gifts you really don't need.
