I plan to fundraise by giving away dinners every week in exchange for funds to save up for my wedding. (Ex: Bake Sale). I am not asking for people to straight out give me money for help. There will be work done, just like any other job so I can have extra savings for my wedding. After reading older forums, it seems that alot of people have negative things to say about this topic. Some can be judgemental and some can be understanding. What's your thoughts on the matter?

Yes. And I also understand that it takes money to have it. I have faith and I know that in all things you have to start from the bottom first. Thanks for your response Smiley smile

I quoted a previous poster in my comment who said that you should sign up for Uber or Lyft. It's helped us earn a few thousand dollars.

Yes. I feel the same. But it's okay, everyone lives a different life and has a story to tell. Judging or being rude makes no one better than the other. And positivity goes a long way. So I appreciate all comments.

If you're starting an at home business where you sell meals or baked goods, then I don't see an issue with that. I do think it's weird to call it a fundraiser or bake sale. I agree with the PPs who pointed out that fundraisers, are for charities or school clubs. If someone asks me to buy from their fundraiser, I'm expecting that their proceeds are going to a good cause, not a wedding.

But, if you leave the whole "fundraiser for my wedding" out of it and attempt to run this as though it's just a business, then I see no reason why you can't do that and then whatever you decide is the right pay for you from this business, is your choice. It would be your choice to accept your income from your business and put it in a savings account for your wedding, just like if you started driving for Uber, you it would be your choice after getting your income to put it in a savings account for your wedding.

Thanks for this. I see now that the choice of words can definitely change the dynamic of what we're trying to do. I appreciate it!

I want to tread lightly here but.....having a fundraiser is an implied suggestion that you are raising funds for a book drive, or some other charitable cause. A wedding is not a charitable cause. You need extra income? Get another job by hook or by crook. But to have a bake sale (and I have paid for one wedding, getting ready to pay for another) you are going to be living in your kitchen from now until your wedding date. Posters here are positive, it is just funny when someone (not you necessarily) posts an idea that is really off track (We are doing BYOB and we are going to self cater!) that the comments WILL come, fast and furious! If you pursue the baking seriously, be prepared for the state health commissions to show up and ask about licensing, health codes......just sayin'.

Go check groceries part time (like me!) or get a job at Caribou or Starbucks, tutor kids if you are licensed, look in the classifieds.

    Best wishes!

There are plenty of work from home jobs that are legitimate. The Penny Hoarder has a lot of suggestions. If you have a small child and are struggling financially to pay for a party, you shouldn't be having that party.

Try delivery jobs or something too. You can easily have your kid in a car seat with you if you can't find child care.

Hi! Thanks for your response. I totally understand that the wording is probably not the best way to go. But the concept is just to save up. And I used bake sale as an idea, this isn't necessarily what I would be doing. I totally agree, but everyone has their own way of making things work. That's just my thoughts on it.

Hi there! I never mentioned that I was struggling financially, but I don't see a problem in making extra money for savings either. Some people are very traditional while others are always trying new things. Either way there's nothing wrong with that. I respect your opinion and thank you so much for your ideas! Everything helps Smiley smile

I've got to say, Erniya, while I don't agree with your original "fundraiser" proposal (or, at least the word choice), I LOVE your attitude! You've expressed appreciation for virtually every response, whether it supported or contrasted with your ideas -- and I don't get the sense that you've been the least bit sarcastic or insincere in your responses. These posts often frustrate me because they can become so confrontational on both sides, and that really doesn't help move the discussion to a productive, insightful outcome. I get that "no one can tell someone else how to post," but I sometimes find level of confrontation on both sides a bit crazy. Even on the internet it is possible for people to disagree strongly, but respectfully. The overall "tone" of this particular post is probably one of my favorites in a while! Thanks!
