How many of you ladies had this issue? How'd you go about it? We only had 2 that bounced, we were fined for both which is SUPER annoying, but we let both parties know in the nicest way we could. One lady told me ok it should be fine now try & redeposit it....can this even be done?! I mean I guess...

We only had 2 that bounced, we were fined for both which is SUPER annoying, but we let both parties know in the nicest way we could. One lady told me ok it should be fine now try & redeposit it....can this even be done?! I mean I guess the bank has it still b/c we dont. The other lady said sorry I'll call my bank and have it handled, this was almost a week ago, no word yet...she said she had canceled that bank account & thought all checks had cleared-which kind of blew my mind...lol o-well

Just curious if anyone has had issues...I've never seen a post about this

That is so awful!! And so humiliating and awkward!

I would probably have just paid the fine and not told the people.. but that's just me...

I would *think* almost everyone has OD protection. I certainly do!

Sorry you have to go thru this - how embarrassing for the guest AND for you!

I've never heard of a bank charging you for someone else bouncing a check written to you, unless you wrote a check against that money (aka-you bounced a check because of it). I would say since you've talked to the person, I would talk to the bank.

Your bank can rerun the checks. I work in Accounting and we receive hot checks all the time. i spend about fifteen minutes every day calling banks to verify funds before telling the bank to rerun the checks. if you want to, you can call the bank that the check is from, and give them the person's acct number and ask if there is $XX.XX in the acct and they will say yes or no. They wont tell you the balance, but they will say yes or no

Im guessing these checks are from different bank??

I know once my MIL gave me a check for something she was paying me back for and when I went to the bank to despoist, the bank teller said the funds were not available and gave me back the check. I spoke with MIL and she fixed the problem, I went back and everything worked fine. no big deal.

I guess I don't know much about checks(Other than through my job) as I've never used them personally before but I didn't realize the reciver of the check would get it trouble. I thought the person giving the check would.

I work for a bank and i can tell you YES people can write bounced checks in 2012, lol. i see it all the time. some people abuse the system and that's why there are fees that go with overdrafting and re-running checks. when we take a deposit we assume just like the customer that the money is there. i don't believe it's stupid of the bank to charge a fee when the payee should've had the money in their account to begin with Smiley tongue it's also possible to have the overdraft fees waived, especially if you're a good customer and overdrafts don't happen very often in your account. you may have to fight a bit but sometimes you'll get lucky. at my bank, we're a mid-size bank with a LOT of loyal customers so we handle refunds a lot.

all that being said i'm strongly encouraging contributing to my online registry LOL

Your bank may automatically try to re run the check. If not you will receive a copy of the check back that you could redeposit at another point. Although you may want to consider just cashing the check at their bank to avoid any additional fees.

That is horrible. How embarrassing for you and for the person that gave you the checks.

I am with some other ladies that say I wouldn't have contacted the person who wrote the check. What an awkward conversation that would be.

I don't agree with you being charged the fees though. How could it be your fault? How are you supposed to know that the person didn't have the funds in their account. Your bank should be understanding that it was for a wedding gift and help you out.

I over drafted my account once. I pumped gas with my debit card for ten cents over what my account had in it. They are fast to tack on the fees! But I called my bank and since it was only ten cents and I have never done that before, they waived all charges.

I would ask those people to pay your bank fees too, that is so costly. Fortunately we didn't get checks. We got mostly gift cards, some cash and 1 moneyorder, which I thought was odd, but at least it didn't bounce. So sorry this happened to you.

I had an issue with three chqs that we deposited because they were made out to my name AND husbands name...I put them in our joint acct and was informed that unless they were made out to my name OR husbands then we BOTH had to sign the back of the chqs!? They didn't seem to have an issue that my new last name was on their, or that the chqs were made out to DH familiar name (not legal name!) lol very strange! I'm not sure of all the bank rules either!
