Wedding Hair & Makeup

Lauren, on April 23, 2020 at 2:01 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 24

Hey all! Hope you are all surviving this crazy storm of events.

I had a question to which I would like y'alls opinions on: So I really want to have my hair and makeup done for my wedding because I don't want to be stressed out if my hair doesn't work with me or my makeup looks off by me doing it my self. I selfishly I want someone else to do it so that the perfect look will go with my perfect dress that I have. So my question is how do I get my fiancé to understand that, that element is important to me and that it is worth the expense? Am I being too selfish or conceited for wanting it?

He has wanted me to either do it myself or have my friends and family do it for me for free. I've tried asking friends and family to assist with hair and makeup, but they are all too scared that they will mess it up and don't want to chance it.

I'm just stuck and to top it off my wedding will be a destination wedding of sorts so finding someone to do it will be a challenge to with trials and such.

Anyways, Thank you for your opinions and listening to my rant.

I’m confused about why he has an issue with it in the first place. Knowing that would be helpful in knowing where to start.
I would explain how important it is to you to look and feel your best on your wedding day. From a practical standpoint, wedding makeup is different from everyday makeup. It needs to last longer and be put on heavier so it looks good on camera. You also want it to look normal and not heavy in person. It’s a balance that is best left to professionals.

I would just say that this is something that you want to look into for a reasonable price to alleviate stress for your wedding day. It's all about compromise. Mine is 150$ for hair and makeup. But there were several I looked into that were cheaper - STL, Missouri

I understand trying to save money but if this is something that is very important to you (and quite frankly important to every bride to look/feel beautiful on her day) then you need to have a conversation with him so he can understand. Try the thumbtack app they have affordable mua and hairdressers. If they are still out of your budget try a local make up counter like Mac or Sephora.

I think you can definitely find someone to do your hair and makeup for a reasonable price. I don’t really understand why he would be giving you a hard time about hiring someone for it. I would explain to him that the hair and makeup is just as important as the dress and everything else and like you said the stress of not having to do it yourself. This is your one day to look and feel beautiful and part of that is having your hair and makeup done. I don’t know how you are paying for the wedding, but If my fiancé had told me no, I would have put some of my own money aside and hired someone anyways.

I'm sorry what?!? How is wanting hair and makeup selfish and conceited??
This is pretty typical to a wedding and of course you should have it. I'm sorry your fiance does not agree and has made you feel selfish but that's absolutely not true. Just tell him it's important to you and book it. If budget is the issue I would look into your budget closer and pull from other areas

I don’t think it’s “selfish” at all... the vast majority of women get their hair and makeup done for their weddings. I got my hair done but I did my own makeup, and I actually feel like the odd one out having done my own makeup. Most brides hire a professional.

I literally never do anything with my hair (other than haircuts/highlights like twice a year) or wear make up. On my wedding day, I spent hours in a stylist's chair getting my hair and make up done. This is one of the few times in our lives where we get a million professional photos taken of us. You deserve to feel beautiful on your wedding day, and the dress, hair, and make up are all part of that. If he doesn't agree and doesn't see why this is important to you, he can go kick rocks lol. In all seriousness though, he should be open to compromise on this. If it's a budget issue, there are plenty of options that won't break the bank. I actually had my regular salon do my hair and makeup and they gave me a really good break on the price because I have been going there for years. There's also tons of talented stylists who are just starting out and therefore don't charge as much even though their do beautiful work. If it's not a budgetary concern, then I'm not really sure what to say without having any specifics.

So my sister will be doing my hair and makeup for a similar reason. The only thing is we plan on doing like 3 trial runs which makes me feel better. To me it’s worth it to have my sister do it... but I never do my hair or makeup anyway. So I’m doing very minimal and natural look.

Ugh... Even when we die we would have our hair and make up done by someone. Can’t he just see at least once in your live, when you actually can enjoy it, at the most important day for you two that you need it. I know quite a few bride does their own make up and hair, but still, this is very basic thing in every bride’s list.

Ashley, Thank you for your reply. His issue is that he likes how I do my makeup which is only mascara, eyeliner and a bold lip color (literally wear nothing else) and he doesn't see why I need to pay someone to do it when I can do my everyday look day of.

But yes I agree. It is a different look for events, specifically this event.

Dierdra. Thank you for your response. The budget is what I approx. thought it would be, so I will definitely have to look around more.

Rebelle, Firstly I love the spelling of your name. Super unique! Yeah we have had the conversation multiple times, but I think I need to approach it differently maybe. Sadly we won't be able to use MAC or Sephora as those type of stores are 2 hrs away from the venue at minimum. I will definitely take a look into that app. Thank you for suggesting it!
