Wedding help

Justine, on April 22, 2023 at 4:47 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 4
So it has been a tense time for me planning this wedding. My older sister is supposed to be my maid of honor, but we recently got in a fight about nothing that has to do with the wedding. Mean things were said on my part and I’ve been doing my best to try and communicate with her the best way I know how. She now blocked me from all social media and my phone calls. I’ve been trying to apologize but haven’t been able to get ahold of her. Should I put my other family members in the middle of this and ask them to have her call me. Or should I just move on and with my plans find a new maid of honor? I never thought these things would happen to me but I heard family is the hardest part about weddings. Is this an actual thing when. Wedding planning or did I just pick the wrong time to fight with my sister?

Social media and a phone call are most easy and convenient but there are other ways to communicate. If you are the one who owes a big apology then the effort needs to be commensurate whether that means mailing her an actual apology letter, sending flowers, a gift or a dinner and showing her you are taking steps to make sure that whatever happened won’t happen again.

I think your attitude toward your sister needs to be more about making this right than the unfortunate timing. Otherwise she will think you’re only doing this for appearances.
Absolutely no to “replacing” your sister, something that no one can or should be asked to do. Let her know the honor is and will stay hers. Anyone can offer to plan or host parties with or without that title. If no one else plans, then they don’t happen.
Start there, and if none of this works let her know the door will always be open to her when and if she’s ready.
