Wedding Hijacked

Victoria, on August 28, 2019 at 8:49 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 7

Does anyone else feel like their wedding has been hijacked by their family?

My future in-laws are great, but I feel like they have essentially ruined my wedding plans. They destroyed my guest list and I'm now facing 2k in additional charges because of the overage. My FMIL complains about EVERYTHING. We asked her to do a reading during the ceremony and she acted like it was such an odd thing to do.

I feel like the whole thing has just turned into the opposite of what I wanted and I'm having a hard time getting excited for the big day Smiley sad

Yea during my planning my fmil was kind of annoying. Love her, but she was always kind of suggesting this and wanting that, etc. You just have to stand your ground with what you want.

Yes, my mom is trying to take over. She tried to pick our first dance song then was upset when I put my foot down and said no. Right now I feel like every decision I make upsets. Heck she got mad at me, because she went to the church we use to go to and asked the minister there to officiate the ceremony. So I reached out to him myself since I have never met him and she got upset about that.

I was really glad that my mom was so excited to start wedding planning with me (we weren't sure how they were going to feel about us getting engaged at 21), but good lord she has gone way over board. She keeps sending me stuff of things she wants to do and stuff she's bought that I don't want or that just don't go with my vision. Yesterday she texted me asking if she could put the deposit down for a certain bakery that we haven't gone to taste yet, but she doesn't want to lose the date Smiley ups

Omg I'm glad I'm not the only one. My mom has a problem with the song I've chosen to dance with my dad to and kept sending me all these different songs to pick from. I had to say "look this is the one thing I've ALWAYS known I wanted for my wedding day and Dad is perfectly happy with the song I've chosen for us." I got a "k" in response Smiley xd

Oh my gosh same. But the worst part was we were driving back and still had an hour to go. We literally sat in silence the entire rest of the way. Even though I tried talking to her, it was like total silent treatment.

Luckily our families are excited to just show up and enjoy the day.

My first wedding was literally nothing I wanted. He picked the date (end of May) and the location (his parent's backyard in Florida) as well as my dress (off the rack at Sears) which was not allowed to be white because we had a 1 year old together. My colors were based on the dress my MOH had in her closet and my MIL adding peach for some reason. My hair was all wrong. On my side I only had my MOH who was given the honor because my best friend couldn't make it and her husband was the best man, at least we were close so it was nice to have her there. My siblings couldn't make it but my MIL's friend was there and enjoyed walking through the house in her underwear in the morning. The groom's brother's GF wore a dress that matched mine. The food was cold cuts and a cake with the ugliest 90's topper. We weren't going to have dancing in my in laws kitchen but my bio mom made a big announcement and played some song she liked for our first dance. I admit it was a pretty song but it felt awkward. Imagine everything you fear will go wrong, that was my first wedding because it was nothing I wanted.

Our son and future daughter in law have lost all control of their wedding. They keep saying they are just going to show up and get married which is the only thing they really wanted anyway. My heart breaks for them. She did get to pick her dress and it is gorgeous!!! They wanted a super small, 15 person wedding, and we are now having to scramble to find people to fill seats on our side because her mom has loaded up people on their side and doesn't want our son to look like he doesn't have people.

I hope you all get the wedding of your dreams. Good luck.

My mom overwhelms me just a tiny bit with her questions and suggestions lol it’s just a minor thing and I know it comes from a good place of her wanting to help .
