Wedding horror stories?

Colleen, on April 21, 2015 at 4:50 PM Posted in Married Life 0 55

So, obviously its inevitable that something will go wrong. Outside of family drama, bridesmaids dresses and upside down envelopes i figure other's have to have some pretty good horror stories. At my best friend's wedding it ended with the groom's brother's GF's attacking the groom, drawing blood, and then go running down the highway which we had to call the cops to go after her. I figure hopefully mine could never be that bad, but i would love to hear your other horror stories Smiley smile

Nothing quite to your level, but last week someone posted on my local wedding community Facebook page for an emergency cake. Apparently the couple's cake had been smashed.

Watching. I live for this crap, how sad... Much to my dismay, I haven't witnessed a wedding horror story first hand. I went to one wedding where the bar was supposed to basically be drink-ticket based, but the couple decided to just buy the liquor they could afford, and then when it was gone it was gone, and they had unlimited beer. But the bartenders took that as "make this case of rum (or whatever) last for the entire night". I had 6 of those puppies (some sort of pineapple fruity something) and I felt nothing. Not a thing. Such a waste of calories...

Wow, i've been to some interesting weddings then Smiley smile at another wedding one of our friends tried shrimp for the first time, which we then quickly discovered that he was allergic and had to drive him to the hospital. he made it back for the end of the reception though, so all good.

Well half of our cake slid off the seat when my friend was in a near accident, ( she is fine, 2 tiers of cake damaged, but edible. Were in kitchen not on cake table) We were 45 mins late to the reception due to traffic and having to stop and drop a few people off at the ceremony venue to get their cars. Other than those MINOR things, ours went pretty well as planned. Oh except my Aunt was about 10 minutes late to ceremony so we started about 15 minutes late. ( she is like a mother since my mom passed when I was a kid). Nobody got into fights or arrested, or even screaming at each other, THANK GOD.

This isn't too juicy, but a local venue closed at the end of January and is refusing to return deposits. The worst part of it is, my MOH had been e-mailing the contact of the venue on Friday about wanting to tour it the next week. The contact was very pushy about her coming in over the weekend. Turns out she was just trying to scam another bride out of her money.

Obviously several brides are putting together a lawsuit, but in the meantime, so many couples are screwed Smiley sad

The article if you're really interested. I wish I could link my photographer's FB post about it. Lots of comments on it with crazy stories about the venue contact.

I haven't witnessed anything too bad. The worst thing I saw was the MOH talking about genocide in her speech

Sorry this is technically family related:

I was in a wedding where the MOG wore all black to the wedding..and asked all of her friends to wear all black as well.

Then at the reception she wanted to do a coordinated dance with her friends for everyone (Gangham style) and she was shot down by the bride. The MOG left the reception early in tears.

As a pre-teen I went to my uncle's wedding across the country. The night before (or maybe 2 nights before) he got stupid wasted. He banged on all his brother's hotel rooms and the other 2 brothers (single and without kids, mind you) wouldn't let him in. Then he comes to our room. He'd pissed his pants and was yelling about taking a shower. My dad is the oldest. He called one of the other brother's and was like "yea, my kids are here and they are scared you need to come get him." Neither of them would! So my uncle forced his way into the room and took a shower. He profusely apologized to me and my little brother the next day. Looking back on it, my other 2 uncles were some asshats that night. We were little kids scared to death in the middle of the night!

Anyway, not exactly a wedding day disaster, but close enough.

My MOH's band didn't show up to her wedding so at the last minute she hired a three piece bluegrass band. Nobody cared or noticed. I mean, granted, it wasn't the best music for dancing but it was still really fun. Probably not disastrous but definitely a stressful situation.

ps. @Genny, OMG, "genocide" in the speech? I almost spit out my coffee. LOL.

I was at a wedding a couple years ago where the the best man forgot the wedding ring. It was an interesting conversation between the best man and the groom when the best man couldn't find the ring in any of his pockets. The groom said, "this isn't funny", and the best man said, "i'm not joking". The best man said he forgot it at the club house, and the groom replied, "then go get it."

He was lucky that it was in the vicinity of the wedding, but there was a 5-10 min pause while we waited for him to run and grab it.

It was pretty comical and the groom was pretty good about it.

A school friend of the bride managed to get a hold of the mic (their DOC/venue mandated planner was rubbish - most of the staff were tbh) and proceeded to talk about how she'd set up the bride with her first husband (this was her 2nd wedding) but 90% of the speech was focused on her-her-her. It was cringe worthy.

Needless to say, she's not invited to our wedding - no matter how close she used to be to the family before that incident.

The groom also forgot to write his speech - which the first time he said it, was funny and everyone assumed he was joking to break tension. Nope. After he repeated himself multiple times during a pause laden 10 minutes it became painfully clear he was winging it and everyone was silently urging him to shush and sit down.

In her speech at the RD, the bride's mother called her desperate and her husband (my cousin) someone who dresses like the homeless.

Hmm at my sister's friends wedding her cousin or aunt near the end of the reception was stealing gifts, cards and decorations. Yeah their was a fight, some yelling then they drove off with some swearing. My sister's wedding not a major one but the voters got delivered to the wrong church but they got them in time. My brothers wedding(a very casual only family on my parents farm) he got crazy drink the night before so after the ceremony he was sleeping from being sick. Yep I have learned a few valuable lessons.

These stories are bringing back all these recent horror stories i think my mind pushed to the back of my memory. One of the weddings i was in last year, i started having crazy back pain when we were doing the whole spa day before the rehearsal, ended up taking some pain pills, and just trying to drink whiskey to feel better. Tried the same the whole day of getting ready and finally felt so bad, i had to leave early. Woke up at 3 am with a fever, apparently i had a kidney infection and just didn't know it for 5 days!

Most of my mom's side of the family lives in Florida (as do I). My cousin had his wedding in New York, and most of us jumped on a plane to be there. Well, prior to the trip, my cousin (who was the groom) banned his mother from attending, and she basically told some of my aunts that she wouldn't have gone anyway, because she hates his fiance.

Well, guess who showed up in NY, in a decked out Cadillac Escalade limousine, with the fiance's ex boyfriend?

She was apparently on the security list and walked right past everyone. She walked into the reception room, onto the dance floor, on the arm of fiance's ex-boyfriend, and it just happened to be at the end of the bride and groom's first dance, so all the lights were off, and these two walked right into the spotlight!

Have you ever watched a Law & Order episode, where the court is just absolutely shocked at the verdict? You could hear people gasping over the music.

Before anyone asks, I have NO IDEA how the mother of the groom and the bride's ex-boyfriend know each other. I never asked, didn't want to dig that up ever again.
