Wedding horror stories

Just curious to hear any wedding horror stories from weddings that you've been to. And any advice you have to prevent that from happening at your own.

A friend hired a cheap $100 DJ, and he pulled music from YouTube! And yes, there were ads between songs

I was at one wedding where the ceremony that was an hour from home started at 11am. Beautiful ceremony. Reception didn't start till 530pm! that was the cocktail hour with few apps. We went into hall at 630 dinner served at 730. I was starving by the time dinner came. During the gap my family and I drove the hr home, had lunch, a nap, and then drove back the hr to the reception venue. The DJ played good dancing music, but anytime he played a "slow song" it was an Italian polka/2 step which the brides family loved but every time a "slow dancing" song came on the dance floor cleared except for the 3-4 couples that knew how to dance to it. I have made sure that for my wedding we have everything in same spot, and no big gaps. and TONS of food

I was a bridesmaid in a Halloween night wedding. The pictures ran so long that the bridal party missed out on the one hour of free drinks. Their DJ was also a friend who only played goth/industrial music. (Because they were goth and didn't seem to realize that other guests might have wanted to hear something else)

My cousin is one of my best friends but we couldn't be more opposite. Her wedding was in the mountains in California and we're all from the Midwest. So we flew in, rented cars and houses and overall spent a lot of money for this wedding. She bought her dress off of Amazon and the lace was glued on. I made the wedding cake and cupcakes. There were no chairs for the ceremony at all and not enough chairs for everyone at the reception. So my other cousin who traveled all that way with a baby couldn't sit the whole reception. The food was a taco truck that ran out of food towards the end and not everyone ate. The DJ was this 18 year old kid who played only early 2000 hits. At least there was an open bar and plenty of it.

@Littledemon we had donuts instead of Cake. we had one giant donut made for us to cut into. when we went to do the cutting, it has already been cut. I was just like, "oh well". it was kind of a bummer but I wouldn't call it a horror story, at least not for me

My cousin decided to only have immediate family attend the ceremony. Except the ceremony and reception were in the same space (a barn-like hall) and they started the ceremony almost an hour late.

All the guests who arrived for the reception were forced to stand outside in a parking lot the entire time waiting for them to get married. Everyone was miserable, especially guests in heels (gravel area) and there was no food or entertain outside. SUPER awkward.

Well this wedding that my FH and I will be attending in a few months seems like it's gonna be interesting lol.

Couple has spent 25 or more and still haven't finished getting everything for the wedding, and they only have a list for 100. (All this money is being spent on?)

It's not an open bar, but instead a cash bar (still trying to figure out where the 25 was spent)

Bride doesn't care for the grooms family.

Brides mother thinks the brides dress is ugly.

Grooms family doesn't really care for the bride. Many of them are not coming to the wedding.

Flower girl doesn't like her step mom (bride) or step brother (brides son).

Groom says he's realizing him and bride aren't on the same page so he's gonna be "tuning in" these next few months

Flower girl says groom and bride argues everyday about the smallest things. Related and Not related to wedding

Bride snaps on her bridesmaids because they "act like they don't care" about her wedding

Bride wants all bridesmaids to dress and look the same (which isn't a problem) but one of the bridesmaids has a short hair cut (fade) and the bride demanded her to add hair and cover her tattoo

Groom is trying to be frugal with certain things

Bride says "I want what I want and I don't care what you or anyone has to say"

Bride spent more on the florist, and the groom doesn't know. (He's gonna be mad if he finds out)

The groom has an all white tux and the bride asked him to change it. He told her he did but he really didn't

Man I can't wait to see how this is gonna go.

A non etiquette breaking horror story.. At my friend's wedding one of the groomsmen locked the keys to the rental car in the car...along with all the tux jackets. They did not want to run late so they broke the rental car window to retrieve them. It was super weird walking up as a guest to an SUV parked in front of the church with a side window busted out. The good news is the bride did not know until after the ceremony and the groomsman paid for the damages. I guess the advice is to use the clicker when you lock your door.

Well just had my wedding and the first thing that went wrong is my horrible baby sister in law , who I don’t get along with and did not want to even invite but did so for my husband , decide to show up looking like she was attending a damn funeral in ALL black ! Then got pics with just her family away from all of us and then when my husband kindly asked me if I felt ok with her being in some of our professional pics with family and I told him yes , because I knew it meant a lot to him . She then decided to literally take off running and crying from the venue and get in her car and leave yelling “ I can’t “ . So embarrassing . The only other issue is it was cold so we didn’t end up staying at our outside venue long and people were eating before the ceremony because we were late starting because a giant tree fell a half hour before starting right in front of the driveway to the venue .
