My fiancé and I got engaged 2/2016. Since then we were never really into planning a wedding. Recently, the topic had been coming up a lot. So just this week we picked a date. My fiancé and I got engaged 2/2016. Since then we were never really into planning a wedding. Recently, the topic had been coming up a lot. So just this week we picked a date. A date that is 2 months from today. Are we nuts or what? We're welling to wait but not really. I just don't know where to start planning. We have a $10k budget, but everything is so over priced. Just a wedding planner ranges from $1,500 to $6k, ridiculous. I'm definitely a diy person so I might just stick to that, stress and a lot of coffee. Lol. Smiley smile

Finding a beautiful venue doesn't mean they are available eight weeks from now.

You're right, I kind of assumed that meant they booked it.

Michelle, how is a venue not necessary? Where would you host these 100-200 guests?

Also, with 8 weeks to go, as someone else said above, your invitations need to be out already.

A two month engagement is totally doable, if you cut that guest list down a LOT, find a nice restaurant to host dinner and drinks at, maybe a place with a private room so that you can have the ceremony and dinner reception there, get your license and officiant, and get married with your truly nearest and dearest there.

Don't mean to burst your bubble, but even 100 people on that budget is, to me, slightly less than realistic. Cut the guest list, and think simple elegance, and you will be golden.

Usually invitations are supposed to go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding to give guests time to clear their schedules. I'm getting married the day before your date and my invitations are going out tomorrow. You may get a lot of declines because people don't have enough time to arrange travel, find child care, etc. Just something to think about. If you can find vendors in time you can definitely pull it off, I just think you may want to cut your guest list for the sake of time.

I planned most of my wedding in two months. The issue is with booking vendors, most good wedding vendors and venues book a year out. The easiest way to plan this is to pick your 30 closest family and friends, and find a nice restaurant to hold the ceremony and reception. Eta: To clarify, I mean that the actual planning can be done in a two month time frame. But for me, that two month time frame occurred 10 months before my wedding date.

Wow... I would elope with my closest family and best friends then come home and have a reception only party. 2 months is really pushing it GOOD LUCK

Are you planning on hosting at your house?

I'll respond once I pick my jaw up off the floor.

No but seriously. It can be done I guess? Just make sure you set your expectations appropriately. Also, this venue... tell us more...are you self catering...

Is the venue actually available? Did you even talk to anyone about it or did you just see it online or something? You say you "feel lucky".

If you want a wedding in 8 weeks with zero planning done you are going to have to make a lot of sacrifices. Please host your guests properly and don't take this out on them!

We're getting married the same day. I've had my venue/caterer, photographer, DJ, officiant, literally EVERYTHING booked for almost a year.

You're truly crazy. And no, you don't have a date till you have a venue. Just because you've found some beautiful venue doesn't mean it's available on that date.

You also need catering, a place to get married, an officiant...

    I smell friendors.

So 4/29/18 is out of the question? Just since that date is important to you two, and obviously gives you PLENTY of time to plan.

You can do it. Just get busy, but yes a venue is a priority at this point. How big is your wedding going to be. I would keep it simple.

@Kailee no one here has said anything rude. PP have given great advice and asked important questions. OP asked "are we nuts or what?" So these are the answers she should have been expecting.

See but you said "just this week we picked a date" but then you said the date had meaning to you both and you love that. That makes no sense.

Also, you've been engaged for a year and you haven't even thought about planning anything?

Where are you located? How old are you both?

It can be done, if the beautiful venue is in Vegas, and you live there, and you pay for everyone to eat at the buffet, and you have already sent out the invites.

If you had already chosen the date and booked the venue, I might say, "sure, it can be done" on your budget. Finding a caterer, DJ, and photographer that is available and within your budget, just 2 months out may be pretty hard.
