I am in sticker shock
My venue which includes lighting, doc, china, table linens, 12 hours is 3,000.00 food is 4,000 including bar. I read somewhere weddings are costing 35,000. Am I good at my budget or am I needing to look somewhere else?

Every area is going to have a different pricing, as well as how many guests you have and your vision. I would love to have a venue for 3k ours is around 8 for the day.

That highly depends on your guest count as well. $35,000+ weddings are generally huge and in expensive areas. If it helps, I budgeted around $20k for 125 guests in rural-ish Virginia. $4,000 for food and alcohol is a great deal in my opinion so if you're getting a great value for a lesser budget, then that's great! You'll just need to research how much photographers, DJs, etc. are in the area to get a realistic view for your budget.

$3000 for the venue and $4000 for the food seems to be a great price depending on the area and the guest count. My venue and food together for 100 guests is going to be about $11000. I was in sticker shock too when I started seeing the prices of all the vendors. It adds up quickly.

In my area (Downeast Maine), it is pretty much impossible to get food and drink for $4000, unless the guest list is very small. Consider yourself lucky!

If you can't afford $35k, then don't plan a wedding towards that amount. Plan what you can afford. If your budget is $19k, then with that. Our budget is $12k. I'm not going above my wedding, merely because the average in my area is $30k.. Can't afford it, so not doing it. Also, it's all based on location. I'm in a large expensive area, and average weddings average around $32k here.. Not possible for me. Our guest count is low. Again, plan what you can afford, don't worry about what the average is.

    Venue: $3000

    Food is : $4000

That's $7000 of your budget.. however, does that include taxes, and service charges?? How many guests?

With spending $7k on the venue and food does that leave you enough to hire the vendors you want and stay within budget??

Like people said above it all depends on guest count and location. My venue is in a largish town in Minnesota and were getting it for 8 hours for set up on Thursday and 15.5 hours on Friday for $4500 and that includes tables, chairs, linens, set up and take down of said things, the outdoor ceremony and indoor reception, and some other little things. My food and alcohol estimate is around 4400 including 18% gratuity. My estimated total so far for everything, including dress, is 13,300 and my guest total is around 250. So I think your in good shape for a 19000 budget!

I wouldn’t say $35,000 weddings are huge and expensive, I do think that’s pretty average for a medium sized wedding. I think this comes down to where your priorities are - if the perfect venue and the food/bar were where you were planning to put your money, you’re probably good. But if you wanted to spend a lot on a dress, photography, videography, a band, etc - you might need to break down your budget and re-evaluate that venue. We personally prioritized the catering, which means we’re going cheaper for everything else.

$4000 for food and bar seems really good to me, but I have no idea what you’re serving or to how many.

The pricing for a wedding will always vary depending on location, type of venue and number of guests and options your venue offers and you select. My budget for my wedding is $3,000 but I’m only having 40 guests. My venue is all inclusive so I knew what the price would be before hand. The quote you received for your venue and food is common just depends I guess on how many guests your having

Out venue has all that as well and we are paying $4000, and they allow outside vendors so our food cost is about $900 (not including desert table). Also the venues price includes the bartender, so we just need to supply the alcohol! 😁 it was actually our second choice (long story for the first) but its turning out beautifully!!

If the venue is everything you want, that is great. You have to remember that some of the prices you see are based on the location and other variables.

Most people's weddings cost a lot less than $35,000. First off, people who answer surveys tend to have more expensive weddings than those who don't. (People who have courthouse weddings, say, don't tend to be tied into the wedding industry enough to answer surveys.) Plus, the "sky's the limit" weddings are bringing up the average.

Look at it this way. One person has a $175,000 wedding. Four others each have weddings costing $10,000. Average cost of a wedding is then $35,000 ($215,000 total cost of the five weddings divided by five). But that doesn't mean that your wedding is likely to cost $35,000--in fact, 80% of the weddings cost considerably less than that.

And while those numbers aren't accurate, the general tendency is. A normal wedding is a lot less than the average. And the wedding industry (which runs these surveys) has no incentive to point that out. If they can convince people that "everyone" pays that amount, people will be much more likely to feel they must keep up.

Totally depends on the area. We're paying $1000 for 3 full days at our venue (including lodging for the wedding party). Food will be around $2000 for BBQ for 120 people. A full day of photography with 2 shooters, engagement shoot and print rights was $1600. DJ for 6 hrs was $600. We have a total budget of $7,000, and will easily come in under that.

I am planning on 150 people in Dallas. My venue is $5,500, food is $4,700, bartender and alcohol is $1,700., my videographer is $1,600, my photographer $1,600, my DJ is $1,500, etc. My overall budget is $27,000 and we could easily go over if we're not careful.

We had 115 guests in Southern California our venue was 16,000 but that included everything except the alcohol for the bar they provided, officiant, photographer, and florist. They had centerpieces to pick from and included some rental pieces for free. Our total cost without honeymoon was about 22,000 (2k photographer, 1k florist, 1k dj, 1k wedding clothes, 1k alcohol and wedding bands) without our honeymoon. We received about $10,000 in cash gifts so not too bad.

My 5k wedding very quickly became a 10-12k wedding. My venue is only $1200 for the entire day, but it is in a state park. It does have a full catering kitchen and they supply all the tables and chairs. Linens, food, alcohol will come close to $5k for 60 guests.

Those are going to be your main expenses unless you plan on a 5k dress, you should be just fine!

I should also mention I am 31 and my husband is 39. This is both of our first marriages with no kids, we both work full time- just two dogs and he owns the condo where we live so we could afford the wedding we both wanted. Hehe I still wish we eloped and only spent 5k but it was fun.

That’s a really good deal. My venue is $9K and includes everything you mentioned plus the ceremony. This is for 100 people in the NYC area which actually isn’t bad considering it’s in Queens, New York and in a really nice area.
