Wedding in Early August 2021, Wanting to do a Mediterranean Trip - When Should we Start Planning?

Savannah, on November 10, 2020 at 7:54 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 7

I know things are very confusing with COVID, but assuming we can safely travel in mid-August, when should we start booking flights, hotels. experiences, etc.?

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn’t book anything until the virus situation is much clearer than it is now. April maybe, if things are improving by then, Where in the Mediterranean are you planning on going?

Our plan is to fly to Palma de Mallorca, spend some time there, travel to Nice, spend a few days there, and then travel to Malta to finish the trip. Planning on about two weeks in total!

Oh, how I love the Mediterranean!
I would say definitely start doing research now, but being we will probably still be in a pandemic, I wouldn’t book until a month or two before...

I think August is risky if you book anything I would definitely look at the cancellation policy especially because Covid numbers are going up everywhere

That’s a pretty risky gamble. I would contact a travel agent & see what your options are with scheduling & the cancellation policy.

I travel abroad for family or vacation, 3-6 X in 3 years, about, and find as many good deals are available near 2 1/2 months as way in advance. In between, they are up with no deals, but 8-10 weeks out they want planes filled. Covid has caused so many flights and some whole routes changed by precautions and airlines, that you do not buy any certainty with a reservation. And when one leg is cancelled, how many times do you rearrange your connecting flights, and still keep best deal type fares? I would start looking April 15 as new seasonal flights go up post covid winter, and take the first really good deal with no cancelation penalty, thru May and June. Sounds like a great trip.

It is tough with the virus turning the travel industry upside down. As a Travel Agent, I would have said a year out or better to start planning, but now that is debatable. I suggest you start researching the places you want to visit and check their current restrictions. Whatever you do, please make sure you have Travel Insurance. I LOVE the Med too! Good luck.
