Wedding in Texas - end of May

Ashlee , on April 18, 2020 at 7:35 PM Posted in Texas Planning 0 5
Anyone else getting married (or planning to) at the end of May? Our venue keeps saying it will still happen but I am skeptical... May 29 seems like it’ll still be under COVID restrictions. Any insight? It’s near Houston and a small wedding (around 50 people total). It’s also outdoors in a large open area. We don’t have an option to reschedule since we move abroad in July and live in Virginia as is- making planning tricky.

    Hello!

I’m an October bride but I know this is a stressful time for you. I’ve been following the Covid-19 updates throughout the pandemic and it looks like Texas is still on the upswing. With limited testing and lightening up on some restrictions next week I would plan for your state to still be in “phase 1.” However, there is also a chance you could be in phase 2 which would be a gathering of 50 people or less. If you can’t change your date I would suggest having plan a and b. Plan a would be for if you were still in phase 1 and could only gather in groups of 10 or less. I’d have a plan on how you would handle that. Plan B would be to make sure that if you were in phase 2, you didn’t have over 50 people at your function. Plan on having to possibly cut your guest list. I hope everything works out for you! The phase restrictions aren’t mandatory so I’m not sure if Texas will truly enforce them, however, your venue/vendors might.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply! We have a plan a and b at this point for the two phases and are praying that we can still do it at the venue with our guest list of 50 people. We are lucky we planned a small wedding to begin with!

I live in the Woodlands and from what I can see, Texas is making it's way toward getting back to normal. If they're telling you to plan on still having your wedding, I would trust what they're saying. I don't (knock on wood) see it getting worse in the next few weeks. That being said, I'd take your guests into consideration and expect less people than normal showing up.

    Hi Ashlee,

It's very proactive to start thinking about your options now! Based on the discussions I'm seeing, couples are doing MANY different things when it comes to Plan B. Here are some links to ongoing conversations:

    - Ceremony now, party later

Or, here are some May brides who decided to postpone their weddings:
