Wedding in the mountians. What shoes to wear???

Christen, on January 20, 2019 at 10:17 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16
We are getting married Aug 17 in the NC mountain in front of a waterfall!! I said yes to dress yesterday! I’m puzzled on what shows to wear. There is a small mile hike to the waterfall. People have suggested cowgirl boot but they aren’t my style. Any ideas?

I wouldn’t recommend wearing heels. If you don’t like cowboy boots, how about a pair of flats or sneakers?

Ugh sorry hit reply too soon.

There are some super cute bridal sneakers you can find! White/bedazzled/whatever you want! I think I’ve seen Keds mostly.

For my mountain wedding I had a pair of wedge heel booties on hand, that way I could hike for photos but not have my dress way too long. I ended up forgetting to switch and hiked a mountain up a rock in stilettos but I lived! Cowboy boots are super not my thing, which was why the wedge booties were perfect!

For the hike to the waterfall, you should definitely wear something with grip, like hiking sandals even. They might not look beautifully, but when you’re standing still, they won’t show with the dress. You can always change your shoes into something fancier after you leave the area. You’re already going to be a bit restricted walking in that dress, so it’s better safe than sorry. Don’t want you to slip and get hurt on your way to the ceremony!

As someone who lives and hikes in the mountains regularly I would suggest something without a heal that has good traction. The rocks by that waterfall will be slick so you'll want something that won't cause you to slip and fall in (I know this from personal experience. That water is cold and one wet foot is no fun). When I hiked in the mountains for my engagement photos I wore flats and they worked fine but I wasn't hiking by any water. I'd maybe look into different styles of boots. I think the traction is going to be the most important for your ceremony location. Good luck! Your wedding is going to be beautiful!

I agree with the recommendations for shoes made for hiking. The last thing you want is to fall on the way to your wedding! I have a friend who had to do a little hiking to get to her mountain ceremony spot, so she and her bridal party wore Chacos. These aren't her, but you can find quite a few inspiration pics on Pinterest:

I googled your location just to see if I’ve been there because I love the NC mountains and I’ve been to lots of waterfalls. Unless there is a trail that wasn’t listed on the site, it looks like the trail was 3 miles long. That’s an awfully long time to hike in heels.

Never planned on wearing heels. I can’t walk in them on a normal day lol. Just didn’t want cowboy boots... not my thing. That what the dress shop was suggesting. I brought my hiking shoes and they told me they were ugly 😡 Prob gonna wear my hiking boots anyways. Thinking about getting the groom and I matching hiking shoes! 😍

It’s a loop trail. The waterfall is about half way in. Elopement agency said the hike wasn’t too terrain. Few rocks but nothing crazy. The view is worth the hike!

The hiking shoes would be super cute and personal or maybe some of those adorable rubber rain boots that match your colors? 😍

I like heels so I say maybe a short block heel that can still give you a heel feel but would be safe to walk in.
You can also have a shoe change, for the hike have sneakers and then change to heels for the ceremony for pictures.

Wide wedge is perfect for these terrains.

Unless it's a totally paved path, walking a full mile in wedges or even small heels sounds awful! That's 20-30 minutes of walking. You have enough to deal with making sure you don't walk on your dress. I would wear sandals (like the Chacos pictured above) or sneakers you already own and change into anything fancier once you arrive.

Personally, I'd use it as an excuse to splurge on sandals at REI (I'd be 100% more likely to get use out of them after the wedding!)
