Wedding Insurance - who are you using?

Harts&Bows, on May 11, 2017 at 1:00 AM Posted in Planning 0 23

Hi All,

I'm in the process of finalizing my venue and they want proof of wedding insurance. Who did you all go through for yours? Did you have a good or bad experience? Hoping to get this set this week, so thought I would take to the WW network for feedback.

Thanks,

Kristin

I have never heard of needing to show proof of wedding insurance. None of our vendors asked for it. Following for more information on this new topic!!

Here's the language in the contract, for reference:

Certificate of Insurance: Renting Party must provide a Certificate of Insurance (COI) naming [Venue Name] as additional insured 30-days prior to the event._____

    - Liability Insurance (standard “occurrence” type) in the amount of $1,000,000 per occurrence

    - [Venue Name] is named as “additional insured” on the Renting Party’s insurance policy (at no charge to FR)

    - Provide a copy of the COI to the Events Department 30-days prior to your Event.

We're well outside of 30 days but I want to make sure I don't run into any potential hiccups before officially signing the contract, hence why I'm inquiring of the experts here Smiley smile

Your best and cheapest option is to go through your own home owners/rental insurance company. Call them up and ask about their rates.

Make sure to clarify what is covered. Just FYI the usual coverage is for liability at the event and not for reimbursement if something happens to postpone/cancel the wedding. If you want that sort of policy you will need to Google companies that cover it and pay a lot more.

@kirackle thank you for the advise. We'll reach out tomorrow. I wasn't sure if we could do it through our normal insurers or would need to go through a specialist.

I've also heard of adding it onto your normal policy!

I've looked into WedSafe. Their prices seem reasonable for the amount of coverage you're getting.

Wedsafe i am pretty sure. I think it is worth it because i won;t lose my deposits with vendors if anything happens and we cancel or weather cancels it- the venue closes unexpectedly. I have read horror stories online.

I used The Event Helper. My venue requires insurance. It was the cheaper option and easy to use. We paid $230 for the 1m liability and hazardous weather add on. It was not an option to add to our homeowners for some reason.

I went with wedsafe. My venue didn't require it. It's inexpensive and worth the money God forbid something happens to the venue, the guests leaving the venue, etc.!

We used Wedsure, but shopped around for the best price.

We went through our car/rental insurance (USAA), they use a 3rd party called Markel. We ended up paying $175 for $1M in coverage.

I used wedsafe and feel some peace of mind knowing we're covered in case. Less than $300 and that seemed reasonable to me for what were covered for. My venue also required it too.

I got it for free through The Knot... I just booked a tour through their website to my venue and after I booked it, they gave me the insurance for free... it doesn't cover much I think only $30,000 but at least is something.

My venue had the same insurance requirement in their contract as well. I was told that my cater would have this on their end and to go through them.

@Yoomie our contract requires that both the caterer and us/our event be covered. The caterer has assured me they are covered but we still need to get it. Thanks for all the advice, guys. FH has USAA so we looked at the Markel quote. I happen to have another line of insurance through Markel so we're going to see if they have a multi-line discount (worth asking) and go from there. Smiley smile
