Wedding Invitation Costs

Kennedi, on March 5, 2018 at 1:19 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

I just got a quote from a vendor that was for 150 custom invitations at $988. This seems high to me, is this an average price? I did some googleing that this price seemed a little high but not too far off. Does anyone know if this price is reasonable?

For that number, and for custom invitations, I think that sounds about right. For what it's worth, I'm using minted.com for my 100 printed suites, and it's about $650 for the whole suite. Nothing is custom, and it's a smaller number!

VistaPrint. 80 invitations plus RSVP cards and envelopes and return address labels. $120.

$988 is a little high to me for something people will only have in their possession for a month or so and then throw away!

We got invitations/thank you notes from weddingpaperdivas for $700 -- that was 160 invites, 160 detail cards that went with them, outer and inner envelopes, and 200 thank you cards! They were fancy invitations -- thick paper with embossed writing. Almost $1000 seems like a lot!

I am with Kristina. We are doing Seal and Send invites - way less expensive. We are ordering thirty five and the total is about $70.

That seems high to me, and i did my invites through a traditional vendor (as opposed to vista print etc) We spent 480 for the invites/ RSVP card, lined envelope and address printing for 75 invites. Postage was about another 125.00.

For that amount of money, I'd expect some rather fantastic invites. I once received an invitation suite for someone's wedding that came in a BOX, not a card. If you're going for something super formal then this is an option. If you don't care much (I definitely didn't), you can find much cheaper options.

Are you inviting 300 guests (150 invites?) or 150 guests (75 invites?). If it's the former, my opinion changes.

We spent $180 total for 65 invitations. The invitations, rsvp cards and details cards were from vista print, thicker envelopes were from amazon, and belly bands were from zazzle. I would suggest shopping around to find the best price for you.

This is what I imagine custom would be? I didn’t look into it though. I did Shutterfly 50% off sale - 105 invites and envelopes, 105 RSVP cards and envelopes, and 105 detail cards for $305. I probably could have gotten them slightly cheaper somewhere else but I fell in love with the design!

Sounds right. I did a custom invitation suite and for 40 invitations it was about $560.

I paid $115 at minted.com with a coupon for 55. I think that's an insane amount for wedding invites, but if you have a bigger budget than most people, I guess I would say go for it.

So this would be about the same cost she was quoted for twice the amount of invites...

Overall i think what the definition of “custom” is matters a lot here too. If someone is uniquely designing something for you vs you “customizing” your names onto a pre-designed invite (aka, minted, vistaprint, zazzle, etc)...OP didn’t specify but since they mention “vendor” I tend to think it’s the former, which justifies a higher price in my opinion. Whether OP WANTS to pay that much is a totally question!

We had ours custom designed on Fiverr.com (completely customized to our design from scratch) for $40 and then printed for $270 at a local print shop. Gatefold 5x7 invitation, reply card, thank you card, and website card. Black envelopes were an additional $80. 100 sets of invitations, with one large envelope and two small per set for RSVP and thank you. So $390 total for 100 invitations exactly the way we wanted them.

We embossed them in gold and printed on gold labels.

Hi Kennedi! A ton of different things go into that final quote. Can you share the breakdown of costs at all?

How many pieces are there in your invitation suite? (invitation, reception card, details card, rsvp, rsvp envelope, inner envelope) Each additional piece will increase the overall cost significantly!

What printing style are you using? Are these invitations flat printed, thermography, letterpress, engraved, embossed...? Anything other than flat printing will be more expensive.

Any extras? Vellum, belly bands, embellishments, return address printing, custom designs, guest address printing, assembly, ribbons, multiple ink colors, etc. - these are all things that can increase the total cost of your invites.
