Wedding Invitation Madness

Vanessa, on September 1, 2021 at 3:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
I have been planning this wedding for about three years now. My husband and I were a COVID couple who postponed their wedding party to 10/10 and have had all of their vendors booked for years now.

Our one vendor in particular—the paper company that we went with— has had their money in full for about two years now. Because of COVID and the amount of couples that they had to made invites and save the dates for, they insisted that they would contact us in a timely manner to start the design process. Well jokes on us, they’ve been giving us problems for months now. Between poor communication and failure to even show us what the design they’ve come up with is, our invitations are now in the hands of the USPS and are nowhere to be found. I’m mortified. 39 days until the wedding and we have no invitations. My husband and I are trying to come up with a contingency plan of sending out email invites as a “tentative” invitation with the formal paper invitation to follow. RSVPs are being done through our wedding website.
Is this a horrible solution? I’m honestly so dumb for not having other invites printed weeks ago but I fell in love with this companies custom designs and really had my heart set on them and the thought of a backup plan was heartbreaking to me.

I would call those invited and explain that there's been an issue with the mail, but they should be expecting an invite by X date (whenever you think the cards will arrive). Then tell them the website address if they would like to RSVP sooner.

Could the company send you an emailed copy and then you could use that as an email invite and let your guest know in the email that a paper invite will follow. Or forgo the paper invite all together and include your wedding website for RSVPs.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that Vanessa!! Was the company able to give you a tracking number?

I like Clarissa's idea to ask the company to email you a digital version that you can email or print locally!

It’s very unfortunate because the company (who’s name is Wide Eyes Paper Company) has seemingly forgotten to send us our digital proofs for the invites every time we’ve asked for them. My guess as to why they “forget to send them” is because they don’t want my husband and I to go and print them ourselves. We ended up sending a digital invitation to our guests but let all of them know that a paper invitation will be coming eventually. Sadly I gave the company the benefit of the doubt of being a small business during the pandemic, but in reality, the owner is incompetent and doesn’t know how to run her business. Sadly I fell into the trap and allowed myself to be blinded by the idea of beautiful invitations. Hopefully they turn up eventually…
