Wedding Invitation / Wedding Website

Ricky & Jazmine Johnson, on November 2, 2021 at 4:31 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

I know half of you will have a heart attack but I'm considering posting the digital invitation on the wedding website and just letting people RSVP from there on the other tab. Is there any practical reason that this wouldn't work? It just seems easier to share the wedding website (which collects their emails as they log in) than to try and get everyone's email just to send them an invitation that I could post on the site. My family's not huge on etiquette so I'm not too concerned about that piece.

FYI we are doing paper invitations just as a keepsake and for our older guests, this is for everyone else.

I don't know why anyone here would have a heart attack about your wedding. Do you mean because you think digital invitations are against etiquette or something? I think as long as you are inviting your guests in a way that works for them, then it's fine. That is, making sure that even the techno-challenged can easily see and respond to the invite. But it sounds like you have that covered with paper invitations for older guests.

The only potential pitfalls with digital invites, I think, are that they feel inherently less formal than paper, and sometimes emails don't reach their intended recipients (lost in junk folders). But as long as neither of those things worry you, go ahead and send digital invites only.

Make sure your guests know to not expect paper invites in that situation. We attended a couple weddings that had digital save the dates and invites, and the guest count that showed up was hardly anyone. They mentioned later that guests told them they were waiting for paper invites out of tradition and when they didn’t arrive, assumed the wedding was called off.

The only practical problem I see is that it isn’t clear how you’re sharing the site information with your guesta

The biggest issue I see is people just not going on the website. I had so many people ask me for information about how to get the hotel block even though the link was on our website. And this included younger, more tech savvy folk. If everything is digital, I would just be concerned that they may not check the website. Also, as another poster said, how are you getting out the website info?
