If its super casual you can email but for a formal wedding I wouldn't say this is proper.

We're mailing invitations with RSVP cards that have the option to RSVP online rather than sending the card back. FH is a computer geek (degree is in CS), and apparently in his circle, checking a box on the RSVP and dropping it in the mail, even with the the stamp is already on it, is a MASSIVE EFFORT. I questioned him for quite a while in an attempt to understand his point of view. Oh well.

So for his friends, I guess we'll put the RSVP card and an unstamped return envelope in with the invitation...

Not sure if anyone has already said this; but, with emailing them, you risk them going into people's spam folders and never being seen. Of course, I guess with snail mail they can get lost, but I think there's a greater chance of them being eaten by spam blockers.

If you are concerned about postage, make sure to have your invitations weighed, before sticking them in the mail.

@ Robin, I just bought my groupon and living social coupon. I will design and place our order on VP.

@ All Ladies, Thanks for your comments and advise.

I ordered STDs from VP and they turned out nice so I've made up my mind. I will include inserts with RSVP options and also include our website information.

When people received the STD (mailed or evite version) they visited our website which include details regarding he wedding.

I think that there is definitely a generational divide when choosing between paper and electronic invitations. Although this Greenvelope.com company does a really good job by keeping the price point reasonable and I think that their designs and service make it easy to convert. As far as convenience, you cannot beat it, they have a step by step card creator system that walks you through the setup process and then you can track all of the open rates and RSVP statuses of your guests. Most people that have gotten our invites think its a great idea, especially cause we are trying to save trees and paper invites just get thrown away anyways.

Greenvelope has created a great product and I am a huge supporter, I tell all of my friends and family about it. We even use it for birthdays and all sorts of parties now because of how cheap and easy it is! Plys you look tech savvy

Sending invites and having them RSVP online; How did that go? That's what we were thinking of doing.

As a guest, I like paper invitations, but I also realize the couple is likely spending tens of thousands of dollars already, and if this saves them a few hundred, I don't mind.

Everyone has their own idea of improper vs not. I am very tech savvy but if I get an email invite I assume the event will be super casual, the hosts don't care who shows up. I've attended a wedding that had email invites and the couple was genuinely upset because no one showed (they expected upward of 100 guests and maybe 5 attended. The rest were waiting on paper invites that never came.

If cost is a concern, annsbridalbargains.com and Costco.com are very inexpensive or cut the guest list.
