Wedding Invitations - Return Address

Rebecca, on March 31, 2015 at 3:49 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 27

I have been reading different topics on how to place a return address label, and I saw most said that it should go on the back of the envelope. Would it be ok to put my return address label on the front of the envelope?

Also, are return address labels ok to use or should I hand write?

Thanks!

I used labels from Paper Source and put them on the back flap.

Totally ok to put your label on the front (top left). Front, Back; it's whatever you prefer!

I never understood the back flap thing. And I've heard it drives the mailman NUTS so I just did the regular way.

As for labels/hand written, my MOH and I addressed them all by hand. I wanted the personal touch Smiley smile

I put labels on the back flap for my STDs, and one actually got mailed back to my house! I had to bring it in to the post office and show them that they delivered it to the return address instead of the mailing address.

I think its find if you put it on the front. As for hand writing invites. How many do you have? I tried the whole handwritten think with my STD. I didn't like it. I'm doing labels for the invites.

According to the USPS site, the return address should go on the front, top left. It doesn't say anything about alternatives, but I've heard that putting it on the back 'doesn't count', if you put it on the back it's pretty much decorative and not useful to the postal service. I don't how true that is, but I didn't want to take the chance. If it doesn't get delivered I want to make sure it gets sent back to me. We printed directly onto the envelopes, but I think using clear labels would be fine if you don't want to hand write.

I put my labels on the front top left corner. Many people do it differently. Mine just didn't look right on the back as the flap is straight not triangle.

Since return addresses normally go on the front, of course that's fine lol. Labels are definitely fine.

Question... what did you guys put for your return address? Especially if you both live apart?

I used a stamp on our save the dates on the back. Addresses that were incorrect came back to the return address just fine.

I used a cute rubber stamp that I got on etsy. And I think if you live apart, just put your address as the return address. Unless you want them to be sent to you mom's house or something. (to answer Athena)

@Athena use your address. If your FH anythings like my FH. He'll probably just toss it to the side and forget about it.

I handwrote my invites because I liked the personal touch and I also put the return address on the back flap. I didn't put a name for the return address...just the address.

We used labels in the left hand corner. Our rsvp envelopes have our address printed on them (by vista print) for when they send them back.

ETA: We used vistaprint for our labels too. We ended up getting $100 off by all the stuff we ordered!

Return addresses definitely go on the front--top left. The post office won't turn it away if it's on the back, but it makes their life more difficult. I want to make sure all of my mail gets where it's going as fast as possible, so I follow post office guidelines.

Labels are fine! It's a little more formal to write them by hand or even to have a stamp or embosser instead of a label, but no one will think anything of it if you use your labels Smiley smile
