Wedding Invite Timeline Big Yikes!

Jolie, on August 13, 2019 at 2:56 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

So our friends are getting married NEXT August in Tennessee where FH is the best man. I sent my invites out the end of July for my October wedding which is pretty standard timeline for at home wedding. Isn't the timeline for a destination wedding to send invites 3 months in advance? She literally sent us the invite already. A year away from their wedding... and wants RSVPs back in January. For what?! Generally so confused by this and am thinking welp good luck because I feel like nobody is gonna know their plans this far in advance. Then with the holidays everyone is gonna forget to RSVP after christmas time. She rushed evvvvverything I feel like.

I thought we sent our invites early. (Mailed in June for mid-October wedding)

A destination wedding comes with new challenges, her venue might actually require a guest count already. Typically people would send out Save the Dates, not actual invitations with RSVPs yet so I’m guessing her venue had something to do with it, from what I’ve read some won’t even book you without an exact headcount.

That is super odd. Typically save the dates go out that early but asking for an RSVP 8 months in advance is ridiculous.

In general you'd do save the dates. But destination weddings might need different circumstances if they're far away.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It does seem soon, but some venues take extra planning, throw in a destination wedding and it can complicate things.

I also know someone that send save the dates a year before also for a destination wedding staying no invitation to follow and nothing was send afterwards.
I think destination weddings are a bit risky. As a planner I could not have my invitations 3 months before because is cutting it close for me to be able to go. Usually people send save the date between a year to 8 months before to allow them to plan and take day off at work. I sent my invitations around 6/7 months before our destination wedding. We were all traveling to another country so I wanted to give people enough time to plan from vacation, to savings, to passport needs. I also send some invitations international which tend to take over a month to arrive. The promo code to our hotel expired in December and I send invites around August so in reality my guest really had 4 months prior to plan for our March wedding.
I thought I send mine early but I guess I now look good. A full year is too much!

This totally makes sense to me. My FH and I are up in the air on which route to go with our wedding. Either way it is a destination wedding for most of our guests(95%). Wedding is still 2 years away, so hoping to have it locked down by January

For sure give them a head up with the date once you have it. A text, email, save the date and share your website for more info. If you have a room block with deadline for booking add to website but plan the invitation around this day. To be completely honest most of my guest booked right around the deadline and not months before like I thought. Of course there’s always the exception to everything and I rather be on them then on me.
