Wedding Lasso

CareBear, on July 23, 2015 at 10:39 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 23

I am having a hard time finding a wedding lasso to incorporate my FH Mexican traditions into our ceremony. All the ones I find are about 100.00. I was thinking of making my own, I think I can do it much cheaper then that. Has anyone ever made one? Is it worth the trouble? What are the lengths of the strings and how many beads did you need? So many questions!!!

Didn't make mine but here are some on etsy

If you look through enough photos maybe you can gauge what you will need from there.

This is the one that I purchased. I wanted a rosary one. This one sells for $58. I know that some are made out of white silk rope as well.

@ Ely I was hoping to borrow one from one of my friends. But... my best friend had her added to this amazing shadow box and I would hate to ask her to remove it. My other friend who got married borrowed her brothers from their wedding in Mexico. So I am going to have to buy it, make it or con someone into getting it for me. Maybe I should wait until after my shower and see if someone gets it for me. If I put the word out there maybe someone will gift me one, great idea!

Thank you everyone who responded all of your links are amazing!!!

@amie you are right I might be able to count the beads in some of the photos and figure out how many I should need if I make it.

I thought it might be a money saver to make it AND I can keep it for when our children get married and pass it down to them! heirloom!

@carebear in our family, it's tradition that we invite padrinos (sponsors) for the lasso, they are the ones who put it on us and therefore they purchase it for us. it's usually a married couple you look up to. That's the route we are taking, I'm just trying to come up with a nice way of asking if I can pick it out! lol... this is the same case with the arras (the coins).

My FH family is Mexican and he was raised Catholic. He doesn't really follow that faith anymore but still has ties to it. I was raised Christian so Godparents (padrinos) aren't apart of my culture or religion. So... we were thinking to have our sisters put it on us because his sister kinda threw a fit that I didn't asked her to be one of my bridesmaids!!!!(I don't even really know her why would I do that?) Anyways... My sister lives very very far and opted out of being IN the wedding so I thought it would be a nice way to include them in the ceremony still. One of my sisters reasons for not being in the wedding was cost so I do not want to ask her to purchase anything for me when she is already putting out so much money in order just to be here with me on my wedding day, which means more to me than anything else.

Ohhh I see! I totally get why you're buying/making it yourself. Show us whatever you end up using. Especially if you make it! I would love to see the finished product Smiley smile

Hispanic tradition calls for the best man to get for you guys. And MOH gets the arras if you plan to have this during your ceremony as well.
