Wedding License with Covid?

Nicole, on April 21, 2020 at 3:24 PM Posted in Illinois Planning 0 1
How did you COVID couples navigate the wedding license process? This is the part of planning that I am least familiar with, but we plan to elope and make it official on that date - whether it is somewhere special or in the comfort of one of our homes. I think I read that they are doing virtual certificates that can be redeemed for the license later.

Do I need to go to a specific county? My fiancé is a Wisconsin resident, so does that matter?

Hi Nicole! You need to apply for a marriage license in the same county where you will be getting married. In most places neither of you need to be residents of that county, but you should definitely check the county clerk's website to make sure there aren't any additional requirements or special processes right now!

I'm not sure which county's info you need, but here's a link to the Cook County page as an example of what to look for: Marriage Licenses - Cook County Clerk
