Wedding Loans

Jamie, on May 24, 2016 at 5:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 65

Has anyone had to take out any loans for their wedding?!

If so, what are some good ones to apply for??

Paying for our wedding is literally coming out of our OWN pockets--entirely!...and I stress the finances of it all more than anything!!

No no no no. There are no good ones to apply for.

Have the wedding you can afford. You'll stress more if you have a loan to pay back at an insane interest rate.

Also, most of us are paying for our weddings ourselves.

It should be coming out of your OWN pockets unless family has offered to assist. Have the wedding you can save for and afford. Don't start your marriage off in debt just to have an overpriced celebration that is not necessary.

NOOOOOOO! Please don't finance your wedding. It's one day. Save and have a longer engagement. Have the wedding you can afford. Finance a car or a house, but not a day.

The majority of us are paying for our own weddings. It is never a good idea to go into debt for something that loses value (or has no monetary value).

That is a terrible idea. You should not go into debt for one day. We are also paying for everything ourselves. We figured out how much we can put away each month and that is how we are paying for our wedding.

    NO

Do you really want to be paying off a wedding long after you walk down the aisle? All that interest you will be paying.

Have a longer engagement. There's no reason to be in debt from your wedding.

Please don't do this. No need to go into debt for a party.

Have the wedding you can afford to have without completing depleting your savings. It's a terrible thing to go into debt in order to pay for a party.

It was never our plan to even think about a loan! But I had some unexpected health issues that left me out of work for 2 months with us on 1 income and having to use most of the wedding savings:/ I still don't even want to consider doing a loan...but I don't know...with so many vendors already deposited and with payments made on them I can't just postpone it now, we'd lose all the money already put out ...

@Jamie-read your contracts and see if there is a way to get out of deposits. Some vendors will let you roll over deposits or payments to a future date if you have to postpone the wedding. If at all possible, I would avoid a wedding loan and look into options for postponing the date so you have time to rebuild your savings.

Oy. No, don't take out a loan ffs.

The only thing I did was get a new credit card with cash back rewards and a bonus for spending a certain amount of money in xx time. As soon as something is put on the credit card it gets paid off. Like immediately.

DO. NOT. TAKE. OUT. LOANS. FOR. YOUR. WEDDING.

Everyone is going to tell you this is the worst idea.

That said, if you're dead set for it, I would suggest not taking a loan, but opening a credit card with a 0% APR intro, or a balance transfer option with the same. This way, if you insist on swiping your wedding, you'll at least buy yourself 12-18 interest free months to pay it off.

(ETA: wording order driving me nuts..)

Don't do it. Cut back, call your vendors and see if you can reduce your packages or cancel, and move forward with something smaller.

NOT a courthouse wedding, but something sweet and simple.

A wedding is NOT something you want to go into debt over!!!

You do do not want to start your married life off by owing a ton of money to pay for the celebration.

NOT worth it! Go for a very lovely dinner with a small group of your NEAREST AND DEAREST. You don't need a big wedding. It won't make you any more married.

Only do what you can afford.

Have you talked to your vendors and have you asked if they are willing to post-pone? They may have clauses that once your original date gets re-booked, your deposit can be used for a later date. You never know unless you ask. And losing deposits is a lot better than getting into debt
