Wedding Loans

Has anyone had to take out any loans for their wedding?! If so, what are some good ones to apply for?? Paying for our wedding is literally coming out of our OWN pockets--entirely!...and I stress the finances of it all more than anything!!

    DATE TWIN!

FH was surprised with cancer the year we wanted to wed and we had deposits put down...so guess what? We moved our date ONE YEAR as surgery, chemo, his health and me absorbing all his bills were more important than having a wedding. Don't start your life together with debt from a wedding, either move the date or cut your losses and have a much smaller wedding.

@HoneyLife !! Date Twin indeed!! Smiley smileSmiley smile

...but omg that is horrible! I really hope he is in remission and much better these days...I am all too familiar with the pain, sickness, heartache and drain cancer brings...

I really don't want to start my marriage that way at all tho, i am still aiming to avoid it any kind of loan period, but I can't say it wasn't a thought for an option-obviously, and that I wasn't curious, obviously...

I feel this post has made me more judged by complete strangers than I've ever been in my whole life! I regret posting it!-but I also appreciate everyone's positive advice!

I'm steering clear of the option as I told my fiancé this today. I honestly do not want to postpone my wedding...and I won't, it's taken forever for us to finally be engaged to soon finally being able to all share the same last name (me as his and our 6 year old daughter) We'll make it work. Thank you tho for sharing your hardship and your kind words...good luck with all of your planning!

    Asking a question one thing.

    That wasn't the problem.

It was the 'oh we are paying it our of our own pockets' kind of presumption that's getting you the rash of shit.

Yes. Loans are a bad idea in general. But it was the other bit that is more off putting quite frankly as others have noted.

I'm sorry for your health issues. But u would seriously look at finances and food and how to reduce your spending across the board. Check out the Mr. Money mustache blog. Should help give you ideas on reducing across the board.

The average American spends a fuck load of money they don't need to. Me included. So cut back. And cut back hard.

Drop everything that is remotely trivial to the wedding.

Ask about pushing the dates back. Reschedule the wedding if you have to.

Remember no one is entitled to a wedding. It's a flat out nicety. Not a necessity.

@JoRocka as said earlier, it was a tone I didn't intend at all.

But yes we have cut back tremendously on all spending since my health issues. We're penny pinching like crazy because we didn't expect it at all.

But thank you, I will look into that blog!

(I'm just seeing this thread so forgive me for being super late to post this)

I thought about that too, but then I remembered how long it took to pay off my car, I'd rather not have a loan for a one day thing. But, like everyone else is saying, either do a longer engagement or do something small or medium sized that you both can put together to afford. My vendors are actually working with me to do payment plans to pay on stuff as I go along. Maybe see if yours are willing to work with you to pay on stuff? That way, you'll get a sort of financial plan together. Here's what I did, I got prices on stuff from different vendors, found the ones that I liked and worked out a plan with them to pay stuff down. It's working out pretty good and not as stressful as it may have been. But, in the end, No loan! Not worth the worry later down the line.
