Wedding loans?

Christina, on May 11, 2017 at 2:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 43

Me and my S/O have a semi small budget since I'm paying for the entire wedding myself about 6,000 for a small 80 people forest type wedding and i was looking online and came across wedding loans. I'm just curious if anyone else has taken a loan out for their wedding? I have perfect credit and can easily pay it off it's just since our wedding only gives us 6 months to save idk if a loan or saving would just be the better option

Nope. Why would you go into debt to have a party?

ETA-what would happen if one of you lost your job, or had some kind of emergency that hits. You would then not be able to pay it off in short period and would pay massive amounts of interest

I wouldn't do this. Why not just push the wedding date back so you can pay everything in full without taking out a loan?

I would just save, no reason to go into debt for it

I advise against this. 80 people is not small. Cut your guest list to fit your budget.

No. IMO non-collateral loans are for emergencies like medical bills and emergencies. not a party.

No. You don't take a loan for a party. Six thousand isn't really very much for an entire wedding for 80.

And why are you paying for this yourself?

No, don't start your marriage in debt. Host the wedding with the proper number of guests you can afford.

Please don't go into debt for a one day party. Have a small ceremony and treat your guests to an incredible dinner and drinks afterwards, it's just as beautiful!

80 people is not a small number.

Do not take out a loan. There is no reason to go into debt for a party. If you don't have the money, either have a longer engagement to save more, or cut your guest list.

Loans are for emergencies or big purchases. Wedding funds should be completely separate and not affect or be affected by anything else.

Either push the wedding back and save or host a smaller wedding that you can afford with the 6,000. No reason to go into debt over it.

However, I will say that I did pay for our honeymoon on a credit card that gives us cash back, but I paid it off immediately. You should never purchase something on a credit card that you don't have the money in the bank to pay off immediately.

@TP I would love to know what people you are talking about. The general consensus on WW is you host what you can afford. Maybe you need to lay off Pinterest for a bit

@TP, a lot of us worked hard to save our money for our weddings, which is what OP should do as well.

TP, that was a rude and uncalled for comment. You have four stars; you should have read enough posts here to know that many people have small, sweet weddings and they get a lot of support for going that route. Most of the people here are paying for their own weddings and have structured them to be the celebration they can afford.

Dont go into debt to have a party. Plan the wedding you can afford. If the is going to the courthouse with your immediate family, that is fine. There is nothing necessary for a wedding other than the bride, groom, officiant and witness!

@TP --that was uncalled for and super ignorant if you have read most of the comments/posts on this forum. Many people have small budgets and have lovely weddings!

Everyone prioritizes different things. Some people want an expensive car, others want an expensive wedding. If you can justify the debt in your mind, I say go for it. Just be aware that interest on wedding loans are usually pretty high.

OP loans like that usually have a really high interest rates attached to them. I just wouldn't do that hence I am working 16 hrs OT a pay.

Its very tempting, but I don't recommend getting a loan for the wedding. If you can push back the date at all, thats probably the way to go. Another thing that has helped save us $ is paying with credit cards to get the extra cash back/travel points for honeymoon (and paying off the bill before interest). Its not much, but every little bit adds up.

No!!! Don't sign up for a wedding loan and go into debt over a party before your married. FH and I have good credit and are paying for everything ourselves. But we knew better than to take out a wedding loan and start off our marriage with more debt. It will trap you. Don't don't do it. Find a way to make extra $$$ (I work overtime every week to help save amd plan for emergencies), push your wedding? date back to give yourself time to save, ask FH to help contribute (after all, its his wedding too).
