Wedding Makeup

For starters, I'm not one to wear a lot of makeup. My everyday makeup is eyeliner, mascara, and filling in my eyebrows. If I'm feeling "fancy", I'll do a little eyeshadow and some lipstick. But face makeup (foundation, concealer, contour) has never been my thing. I planned on doing my own makeup for the day of, just practicing and doing something a little fancier than normal, but still now face makeup. Is this a bad idea? I keep seeing things online saying that you'll look "washed out" or won't photograph as well. I've thought of waiting to see how our engagement photos turn out before making the final decision. I know airbrush makeup is supposed to be really natural, I just don't want to look like a totally different person on my wedding day. Has anyone else been conflicted on this?

While I do my make-up pretty much everyday I have been learning different techniques I don't use on a regular basis like contouring and playing with eye shadow effects. There are plenty of YouTube videos to help novices if that makes you feel more comfortable. I just did my make-up for an event a couple of weeks ago and took pictures on my phone. I think it actually looked great. The one thing I would recommend is a setting spray or powder. You will be hugging a lot of people on your big day and don't want all your efforts wiped off in the first few moments of your reception. If you think your engagement photos come out nice, I say go for it.

I am the exact same way as you. I only wear eyeliner, mascara, and then fill in my brows. Personally I am having my makeup done for the day of because I already know I don't want to be stressing on how to figure out putting on all the other stuff lol. What you could do is just hire a MUA for your engagement photos to see how you would like it. That way you'll pay less and get an idea of how it would look or you can do your makeup yourself for the engagement photos and see how your photos come out.

Same! I actually used to wear foundation all the time but stopped right before summer hit. Now I actually prefer my face without foundation. I still contour, blush, brows and mascara. I haven't worn eyeliner in years though, since middle school. I just started playing around with eyeshadow. Like you, I dont want to look totally different, so I'm leaning towards doing what I have been doing but adding false lashes for pictures, especially since I wear glasses.

Hey Amber! You are definitely right that you should look like yourself in your wedding photographs!

Judging by your profile photo, your skin is absolutely beautiful!!

If you are absolutely set on not wearing foundation on your wedding day, perhaps you would consider wearing a good primer and a pressed powder over your skin? This way, you can help even out the figment your complexion and the powder would help keep a matte look to avoid shine.

As Christina mentioned, if you are interested in considering all of your options, you could book a makeup trial for your engagement shoot. This way you will be able to see how makeup will come across in photographs and whether you like how you look. If you are hiring an MUA, they will definitely be able to create a natural ‘no-makeup’ look for you, as long as you explain to them what you want and are comfortable with.
