Wedding Makeup

Holly, on November 12, 2019 at 2:31 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 9
Hello everyone! So one of my bridesmaids will be doing my makeup for the day of my wedding but I never wear makeup so I don’t even know what to buy for her to use! So I don’t need tons of product since I probably won’t use most of it again. Any ideas about what to do to get what I need without paying an arm and a leg?

If you don't wear makeup, I wouldn't cake on a lot of products that you never wear. I'd be worried that you wouldn't look like yourself! I would look for natural makeup inspiration on Pinterest! I would probably get some mascara to help your eyes pop and some lipstick for some color. If you want something a little more than that, I would go for a light coverage powder foundation or a little bit of blush. Unless of course you want to look super glam, then you could certainly go all out! Just my opinion Smiley smile

I would make sure to use testers to see what color(s) you need.
Some things she may be able (and willing) to share, like eyeshadow, primer, setting spray, etc. Which would be great for shadow because usually you need a crease color, highlight/brow bone, and about 3 main colors depending on the look you're going for.
I suggest getting your own foundation and concealer (if you're using them), maybe highlighter/countor/blush (if you and your friend have similar tones and she will share you could use hers.) Definitely need your own mascara, eyeliner, lip liner and color.
Eyeshadow is dependent on what she is willing to share and what color(s) you need.

Buying products at like Sephora, MAC or Ulta with a free make-over (with purchase of make-up) can help you get the basics you need. Sephora has a tool that picks up your foundation color.

Ulta is my favorite place to go because you can fin high end and drug store makeup. For me the most important thing is a good foundation so I would probably invest in that.
morphe has amazing eyeshadows and great prices
If you get a really versatile palette this could help you for eyeshadow, your eyebrows, highlighter, countour, blush, etc
maybelline primer is really good (I don’t know if you will use this but just in case)
L’Oréal is really good for their mascaras
Wet and wild have really good lipsticks
honestly the only thing I would invest a little is in foundation. And make sure to have a good skin care routine so my face looks radiant
i don’t know if that might be too much makeup for what you have in mind but just some ideas in case you are wondering

Your skin type will play a huge role in what type of foundation you need. I have SUPER oily skin and Revlon actually works better than any of the expensive professional brands I've tried. I would definitely suggest going to an Ulta or Sephora and having them help you. They can direct you towards the right products for your skin type and you can test them out. Whatever you end up buying, I would definitely have your friend do a full trial a few weeks before your wedding and wear it all day so you know it will hold up and not cause breakouts.

This! I would schedule a makeover at Sephora which is typically free with a $50 purchase depending on your location. Let the artist know what type of look you are looking for and what factors are important to you. I think its important to have makeup that will last as long as possible so you will need a good base (primer) and a good setting product to lock everything into place. You can choose a foundation with a natural finish and I'd probably go with a nude eyeshadow palette. There is so much affordable makeup out there nowadays. You can also tell the Sephora artist to send you a list of everything that was used and then search for drugstore dupes to save $$$.

I would go makeup shopping with the bridesmaid who is doing your makeup. I rarely wear makeup as well but am planning to do my own for my wedding, so I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos and trying out products. If you don't have experience with makeup it can be really difficult to find the right color matches and formulas for your skin, so having a more experienced second opinion is helpful. Plus whoever is doing your makeup will have preferences for products they like and what they use to create a look (some people use cream concealer to contour while others prefer powder bronzer and highlighter, for example) so it makes sense to get advice from them.

At Sephora or Ulta, you'll have the option of testing out most products. They are more expensive than what you find in the drugstore BUT you can swatch and test out pretty much everything. You cannot do that with most of the products in drugstores. My FH pointed out that making one trip to Ulta and finding a $30 product that works for me is actually more time and cost effective than making repeat trips to Target for $8 products that I try once and then collect in my makeup bag because I didn't like them.

Drugstore products tend to be cheaper, but the quality of inexpensive makeup is super variable, so do your research. Some products might look nice but won't last all day, or can be really difficult to blend and work with. My local Target does have testers for Maybelline's Fit Me line and Loreal's True Match line for foundation, both of which are fairly inexpensive and have pretty good reviews, but the lighting in the store is awful and there isn't even a mirror near the cosmetics section so I have to go borrow one from another section of the store to see what the products look like on my skin. Some Target stores (and other stores) also allow beauty product returns, so researching the store policies of wherever you are going shopping can also be helpful.

I also signed myself up for Ipsy's Glam Bag subscription service. I just do the $12/month bag, which gives me five sample sized products each month. I figure it's a way to try out different products to see what I like, without spending a huge fortune on high end makeup.

I would assume you would need a foundation that matches your skin tone and mascara! I would ask her what she thinks you would need, because I would think since she offered to do it, she may have a lot of stuff to use already! Maybe as a thank you get her a gift card to Ulta or Sephora!

If you don't usually wear a lot of makeup, I recommend not wearing a ton of makeup at your wedding and going for a more natural but ethereal and glow-y look.

If you need a foundation just to even out your skin tone or hide minor blemishes, I recommend a powder foundation. They're light but can help even our your skin tone. BareMinerals has some great powder foundations, but for a higher price point. I've heard good things too about NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat powder foundation and the Neutrogena Healthy Skin pressed powder.

If you don't need a foundation, I would just get a highlighting concealer to brighten the center of your face. The Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer is very popular and has a sponge-tip applicator to help make a natural finish. You would just want to top it off with a little transparent setting powder, like a NYX finishing powder .

You should still wear a little bit of color so you don't look washed-out in photos. Use some blush with a little bit of shimmer to add some dimension. I LOVE Milani's Baked Blush.

If you want to add a little bit of color to your eyes, I highly recommend Revlon's ColorStay Creme Eyeshadow. I'm obsessed with the color creme brule. It's the perfect champagne color to add a little shimmer and color without it looking too over-the-top. And it's so easy to use -- I just use my finger!

You should make sure your brows are filled-in since your brows shape your face. Nothing too dark, of course. I love NYX's Micro Brow Pencil. It's super thin and easy to blend, and it has a spoolie at the end to help blend it all together.

If you want to wear eye liner, I would do something very minimal. Almay has a nice pencil that's thin and blendable.

Top it off with mascara. I would get a waterproof mascara because you might get a little teary! I love L'Oreal's Lash Paradise mascara.

You'll also want a lip color to add a little more color to your face, but I would keep it subtle. I love L'Oreal's Colour Riche Shine Lipsticks. They look like a traditional lipstick, but I love the color and finish. When they go on, they look like a medium-pigmented lip gloss. They add the perfect amount of color and shine to keep things natural.

So overall, I would for sure recommend getting a shimmery blush, mascara and lipstick/lipgloss. I think everything else is up to you and how you want to look. But if you don't wear a lot of makeup, I would just keep it light and natural-looking, with just a little color and shimmer so it picks-up in photos. Good luck!
