Wedding Menswear (what are you doing?)

Katie, on February 18, 2020 at 4:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 17

Are you having all men (groom, groomsmen, ushers, fathers, officiant) wearing the same suite/tux for your wedding? What is typical?

I was planning on having them all rent or purchase (depending on what they want to do) the same suite. The groomsmen will have pocket squares and the groom and fathers will have different boutonnieres (and pocket squares to help them stand out). I was going to tell the officiant to wear a suite and not have him rent/buy the same as the rest of the guys. Thoughts? Thanks for all of your help!

No our officiant just wore whatever suit he had. Even my dad and bro wore a different suit from the groom but I also had groomsmen only wear dress shirts with suspenders

FH is wearing a tux with a plum jacket, black pants, blush tie and pocket square, black suspenders. GM are wearing same tux as FH but with grey jackets. I told my FFIL and step dad to wear their grey suits (both already own one) and light pink shirts and plan to gift them dark purple ties. Ring bearer will be wearing blush button down, grey or black dress pants and plum bow tie and suspenders

The groomsmen & the groom were in the same pants & jacket & pocket square & socks. The groomsmen all wore the same white button down & same tie. They picked their own shoes & belt. The groom was in cowboy boots & a paisley tie. The dad's both wore dark navy suits but we just let them pick whatever then gifted them a shade of blue ties. The officiant we hired so he wore a black suit.

FH will be in a light grey suit with a navy tie. Groomsmen will be in a navy suit with a wine tie. My dad is wearing a dark grey suit and I'm assuming our officiant is wearing a black suit, since all of his pictures on WW show him in black. I've never really heard of telling the officiant what to wear, unless I suppose if he's a close friend or family member and not a hired vendor.

I would ask your FH what he wants to wear and what he wants his groomsmen to wear. I gave my FH ideas, but he chose what he wanted for them and himself. My dad just showed me a suit he already had and I told him it would be fine, just asked him to get a different shirt because I wasn't a huge fan of the one he had.

My father will be the officiant and walking me down the aisle. He’s usually a gray suit guy, so he’ll probably be in a dark gray suit. My mom will also be walking me down the aisle in a navy dress.
My FFIL is ALSO a gray suit guy, so he’ll probably get one from Men’s Wearhouse too.

    Also meant to post this-

FH will be in a navy 3 piece suit, BM in navy pants and a vest, and the other groomsmen and bridesmen will just wear navy pants and a white shirt with mauve accents. Only difference is bridesmen might have a different color shirt.

Thanks Megan. I like the idea of having FH be in a 3 piece suit and the other groomsmen in the same color pants and white shirt. That helps!

Hi Amber! Thanks for the info! I just realized that I NEVER asked my FH what he really wanted. I think he just is like "yep, that sounds good" haha. Our officiant is his cousin, so I wasn't sure what was customary with what he should wear. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the help! I want things to be as easy as possible for the guys. I liked that you had them pick their shoes and belt and you gifted the dads both their ties - that's a great idea! I think we will do that.

My FH is wearing a 3 piece black tuxedo which is what he wanted and my kids who are walking me down the aisle are matching. My dad is wearing a suit from his closet and that’s all I know. The officiant wears whatever he chooses.

FH, his groomsman, and my dad (& his dad since he's the bestman) will all be in the same suit. FH is going to wear a vest to stand out from the rest, and the others won't be in a vest. They all got their Kenneth Cole suits on sale at Macy's for only $129.99! The officiants know the colors of the suits so they can wear the same color if they want, but I'm not making them.

Thanks Lauren! I really like the idea of having my FH wear the suit vest and the groomsmen not. I think it is a great way for him to stand out. Super helpful.

We are doing 18th centuryish wedding so fiance is wearing a black waist coat and beige shirt and kilt (and will be changing into a great kilt in my tartan after the ceremony and his guys are all wearing gray waistcoat, beige shirt and kilts (we are buying their kilts) they are buying all the other stuff

My officiant and all the guys in the wedding party will be wearing kilts. The same garb the officiant normally wears for presiding over rituals is what he will wear to the wedding. We picked our own tartan and all the guys will have it. FH will wear a white shirt in the same style with a vest. The rest of the guys will have short sleeved white dress shirts. All will have black kilt socks and flashes in the same tartan as the kilts.

This is not typical, however. I believe that normally officiants wear basic black/white suits and then the bride or groom chooses the suit for the others. I've never really thought about asking the officiant to wear something specific.
