Wearing pearls: this is one of those wedding myths with both bad luck and good luck meanings. The ominous version of this myth holds that pearls represent future tears; thus wearing them will bring many tears and heartache in the marriage. The luckier version of this implies that the pearls take the place of the bride's real tears, thus she'll have a happy, tear-free wedding.

Tears on the wedding day: it is considered good luck for the bride to cry during her wedding. She will have cried all her tears away leaving none for the marriage. Another theory holds that a bride's tears are good luck as they bring rain for the crops.

Rain on the wedding day: this is another good luck - bad luck wedding myth. In the good luck version, rain is said to foretell the coming of children just as rain promotes growth in the farmer's fields. In the unlucky version, rain drops represent the many tears a bride will cry throughout her marriage.

I am thinking I will wear my Grandma's pearls if they do not clash with the dress. They are more ivory than white though. I don't believe in half of the superstition stuff, but I will not be seeing my groom before the ceremony and he will not see my dress,(doesn't want to even see BM dresses, lol). I will have both Grandma's erings, and also my mothers wedding set with me as I go down the aisle. They all had long happy marriages until they passed, that has to be a good omen for me.

My FH is going wedding dress shopping with me tomorrow, so the not seeing me in the dress is out. But I don't really care. He knows what I like and what looks best on me. My mom is to accommodating, she tells me everything looks good, even when I know it doesn't. My sister has a very different style than me and doesn't think anything outside her style looks good on anyone. So they are not invited to go shopping with me. Which leaves FH.

    These are so ridiculous.

The whole rain on your wedding day is good luck is just and excuse someone gives so the bride doesn't freak out about the fact it is raining on her wedding day.

The time thing I think is lame. Sometimes people get too wrapped up in symbolism.

Pearls are considered regal and elegant and were the jewelry of choice a few generations back and since weddings are all about tradition, borrowing, something old and elegant affairs, they make for an easy choice.

I won't be worrying about any of these or any of the others either.

I was confused about the pearls for a very long time because my birthstone is pearl and my mom would never let me wear any because I wasn't married.

So was I allowed to wear pearls on my wedding day or only AFTER I'm married??!!

FInally my mom cleared it up for me and said that I was allowed to wear pearls on my wedding day since I am becoming a married woman and to show it, my tiara has some pearls in it.

It's funny, in my mom's own culture she said don't get married in August because August is the month of dry spells which means bad fortune. Surprisingly enough i'm getting married August. She ended up being okay with it since it's the very end of August. I guess it was a good compromise LOL.

She said she will also boil 2 eggs and keep them close to her Virgin Mary statue for a few days so that it can guarantee that we will have good weather for our wedding. I remember she did this twice and it worked even though the weather networked said it would rain so I guess regardless of whether I believe this or not, if it will help why not?!?
