Wedding officiant decisions..

Pat, on May 20, 2019 at 8:20 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 18
How did you all decide on who would perform your wedding ceremony? We are having our ceremony and reception at a beautiful rustic chic venue and I am researching wedding officiants. Ideas?

We decided we wanted to try to have someone we knew perform the ceremony, so a friend of ours offered and got ordained online and we'll be writing the ceremony ourselves Smiley smile We had to apply for a 1 day license in our state for her to marry us. Definitely look at examples of the type of ceremony the officiant provides (and videos too) to see if you like their style.

We found are officiant on here. I researched and contacted multiple people. I read reviews for each one to see what others thought before making a final decision.

We originally looked at hiring someone but didn't really want to spend the cash. I thought about asking my Godmother but she is pretty religious and we are definitely not so I was a little worried it might start leaning a little more that way than I was comfortable with. We ended up deciding we wanted someone who was important to both of us and we really only have 1 mutual friend. He was my friend first and saw me through some really rough times. Once FH and I started dating they quickly became very close friends and having someone there who has seen us grow from just dating to this meant a lot to us. Its usually really easy to get ordained online if there is someone you know personally, but be sure to check with your county;s requirements. Mine doesn't require anything outside being ordained online but some require state/ county registration and fees.

FH's uncle is ordained and does freelance weddings so naturally we asked him. We love his fun, outgoing personality. It worked out perfectly!

You may try a wedding expo or a venue open house. It doesn't even have to be your venue. We've met officiants at both. We got their cards and researched their reviews later. Also, your venue may have a preferred vendor list.

I considered my Dad but ultimately went with a dear family friend I’ve known for about half of my life.

    I chose a friend.
I had a friend, acquaintance, and my best friends cousin to choose from. I chose the closest one.

We're just using a Minister that my fiancé knows through his Church. We planned on using the actual Minister of the Church my fiancé attends but we found out that he doesn't have an Officiant's license. Apparently it's not as easy to become a wedding officiant in Jamaica.

I asked my Dad as well. He is an ordained minister in Florida. He said no!!! Lol. He would be way to nervous to perform the ceremony which I completely respected. Plus it's a lengthy process to get ordained in VA. We ultimately searched this site and thumbtack and found a great minister for a really good price.

Both my FH are non-religious so we've asked his best friend to perform the ceremony for us. He made the joke one day of marrying us and we went along with it because it made so much sense. He's going to become fully ordained online and we'll reimburse his costs as payment.

We wanted someone we knew to marry us. In PA we can "self unite" so we are having my close friend marry us and she doesn't have to worry about getting ordained. We are making up the ceremony script.

We asked my brother to perform the ceremony. He was definitely shocked but I think he's excited. We will help come up with the ceremony but I'm sure he will say some words on his own as well.

We want one of our friends or family members to officiate. I suggested FH's sister since she is a great speaker but we haven't officially asked anyone yet
