Wedding on Labor Day weekend

Mariah, on April 24, 2019 at 4:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
So we are wanting to do a wedding weekend like rent out a summer Camp we’re having a hard time deciding if we should have it the weekend before Labor Day weekend or the weekend of. I was just wondering of some of the pros and cons of having a wedding during a holiday?

I'm having my wedding on August 31st this year which is close to Labor Day. (Sept 2nd I think). I don't think there's any con's to it really, it might depend on where you live. I live in Utah and a lot of our friends and family don't bother going out of town on a three day weekend. If they know far enough in advance and want to make sure they make it to your wedding, then it should be fine!

Were having ours Memorial Day weekend. a lot have people weren’t able to make it because they can’t get off work holiday weekends or are just going out of town. (We had 37 declines). That’s really the only con I can think of.

I assume Labor Day camping will be way harder to book & more expensive? And more people won't be able to make it.

We attended my FH's cousin's wedding last year on labor day weekend. It wasn't too bad, the hotels were more expensive because of the holiday and so was gas for the drive. I also usually go to my family reunion that weekend (it's just the traditional weekend my family holds theirs and easy to remember) but was unable to attend.

I love holiday weekend weddings, especially if I have to travel because I get more time with peeps and less pto! We’re getting married on July 7 (Sunday at the end of a holiday week with 90% of out of town guests....so we broke ALL the rules 😂). As others have said you might have a lower turnout but I think it's a know your crowd thing. I always think it's a good idea to run your date by your vips before finalizing.

We are also getting married on August 31st of this year. FH and I live in Rhode Island but most of my family is in New York and Utah so, they like having the extra travel time during the holiday weekend to enjoy the wedding and get back home for work, school, etc. We did notice that hotels were more expensive for that particular weekend but, overall it was worth it to us.

We’re getting married Labor Day weekend this year (August 31st). It’s very convenient for our out of town guests, especially those with kids. We’re also doing a bbq the day after so people will also be able to hang out and enjoy that without having to worry about work/school the next day. Definitely many pros to it! The only con really is that travel/hotels could be more expensive for people. This didn’t affect us as we’re not exactly in a touristy/vacationing area.

I've always hated holiday weekend weddings. The prices are always marked way up and the travel can be a nightmare. Its the worst in my opinion, but that's based off my bad experiences.

If you have a lot of guests who need to travel, expect a lot of declines due to cost. If everyone is local, before you decide on Labor Day, find out your costs & availability.
