Wedding Photobook Ideas?

WWJamie, on February 15, 2015 at 4:59 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 18

Hi everyone! I got married back in October and we received all of our photos a few weeks ago, so now I'm trying to figure out what to do for a wedding album. I was planning to make a photobook, but it seems so overwhelming with so many images to choose from. For those of you who made your own album, does anyone have any recommendations for an easy-to-use photobook site (I only have experience with Shutterfly, but would love any suggestions)? And how did you narrow down which photos to use in the album? I'm struggling with wanting to include all of the images I love, but not wanting the book to be 100 pages long...

Any tips or thoughts would be much appreciated! Smiley smile

We used Shutterfly. Personally, it was the easiest one to configure and the prices are amazing. I paid $100 for a 108 page book with lay flat binding (they are always running sales). They are still holding up very nicely. I went through the USB our photographer gave us and then moved photos I loved the best into another folder and used them in the book. Often we'd have 5-6 photos of the same shot with different expressions/lighting.

Shutterfly is the best!! It is user friendly and great quality. You can personalize it just how you like! =)

    Thanks, ladies!

@JuneBride Great to know they hold up well - that's definitely important. I hadn't considered binding options, so I'll definitely have to look into the lay flat now. I appreciate the tips!

I used MyPublisher.com. They offer books and albums with several options.

Never, ever pay full price on MyPublisher. There is always a coupon available, particularly if you get on their email list.

I also tried ArtisanState.com but I found their design software annoying and restricting.

Shutterfly is the biggest company of their type (there was part of shark tank last week that involved shutterfly). I LOVE my shutterfly photobook...and everything else I have gotten done from shutterfly (literally I have cups, ornaments, pillows). Definitely upgrade to the layflat pages. They are completely worth the extra price, the pages are so much nicer.

For all my own personal printing, I love my shutterfly books. The Custom path is pretty easy and you can make it totally unique. A few suggestions: Keep it simple so your photos shine. I like to start with the "instagram" style design or the "portfolio" design style they have. That way, you can add a few details here and there with the stickers and it doesn't overwhelm the theme of the book.

Pick a few of your top favorites from before the ceremony (his and hers, if you have them) and the ceremony itself, then use a few more supporting images from each part to build the story of your day.

Use a couple to a few of the pages for portraits, and a couple for details. The reception can be broken into: details, cake & toasts, tosses and party/frivolity. I would use a page or two for each of those. Hope that helps!

It was a bit more than Shutterfly, but I found mixbook.com A LOT easier to navigate and like the options a lot better than the other.

I second mixbook.com like Maltese.. I've been playing around with it too and find it easier than other sites.

Ooh I've never heard of mixbook so I will have to check that out. Thanks!

@Metcalf thank you for the photo suggestions, I know that choosing the ones to feature is going to be super challenging. I like your idea of breaking down the reception into categories!

Hi date twin!! Tomorrow we will both be married for 4 months, woohoo!!

I use Shutterfly for regular photo books but wanted something more for our wedding book.

I ended up using Artisan State, they run 25% promo's and my total cost ended up being $280 for the heavy "bend resistant" pages, lay flat binding with a cameo cover, size 12" x 12"

Below is the link to my book.

As for picking which photo's, narrow it down, then narrow it down again, then start making the book and it will all work it's way out.

    Good luck!

Artisan State is a GREAT one for DIY. It is more expensive than most book-making websites but still very affordable (it runs around 100 bucks for 20 spreads) and their books are beautiful. Great quality flush-mouth leather albums, and simple tu use.

Mixbook is good too, very user-friendly, and cheaper than Artisan State.

@Jamie, thank you!! I popped in on your page and your photo's are really beautiful, I love your dress!

I took a look at my photo book when I posted the link and I used 56 pages and about 250 photo's but I love pictures and budgeted for it.

Good luck with your book and post a few of your favorite photos :o)

I just got my shutterfly book, and I LOVE IT!!!! Instead of a wedding book, I did my own "custom" book using one of their layouts. I have a few minor issues (the review process kinda sucks, my full page pictures are a little grainy, I couldn't adjust the font so on the pages I wrote something, you can't really see it). BUT. I used WWs freebie and a shutterfly discount, so I got my 24 page book for $10 shipping. Most pages have 3-4 pictures. It was an awesome way to get those pictures that I loved, but I didn't want to fill a wall with 75 pictures!! I love my cheap book Smiley smile

I used Shutterfly and also had a free 8x8 photobook code. I upgraded to 8x11, lay flat pages, only had 24 pages but got everything covered. I think it was $58 after the free book code and other sale discounts. I also ordered a duplicate to give to our venue owners - they have several others that they pull out for prospective brides.
