Wedding Photographer Under $1,000

Rebecca , on April 14, 2015 at 8:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

I am looking for a wedding photographer in the Houston area for under $1,000. I am not getting married until April 2016 and just beginning to research options. Is this even possible?

Honestly, it will be difficult if not impossible to find one under $1000. If you DO find one, their pictures will probably be very very bad.

It's going to be difficult to find a photographer for under $1000 unless they are just starting out or are family or friends

Maybe try finding a free lance photographer?

Try using Thumbtack. I found two for $2,000 and thought they were a steal. Most I saw start at $2,500 + but I'm in NJ.

I live in Pittsburgh and the photographer I booked is great, and her beginning 6 hour package starts at $899. That being said, I think Houston is probably a pricier market. I'm doing a package for $1199 but it also includes an engagement shoot and 7 hours (and all her packages have a second shooter) so I'm feeling super lucky to have found her. She is primarily a portrait/family photographer but has shot quite a few weddings and I've looked at her work; it is totally a steal.

Also look into photography schools. A coworker booked a talented photography student trying to break into weddings for $700 for the whole day. The pictures were pretty good!

I was in a good friends wedding 2 years ago and we literally took 4-5 hours of photos. It was horribly tedious. The photographer was a family friend and the spent 800 dollars. I never knew this until recently that she admitted that she wishes she spent more on a photographer because she was very unhappy with her photos

Look into photographers with an hourly à-la-carte rate--you might find one who can photograph the ceremony, formal portraits, and a bit of the reception if you hire him or her for a specific timeframe as opposed to the entire length of the event.

Keep your chin up. It's not impossible. Try posting some things at local colleges, some college kids that are studying it and want some funds/experience. I happen to be a photographer and never charge over $500 for a wedding. Sending good vibes your way! Good luck! Smiley smile
