Wedding Photographer Unresponsive

Brandi, on August 27, 2021 at 6:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
My fiance and I paid a nonrefundable retainer and signed a contract with our photographer last year. Our wedding date had to be moved due to COVID. I spoke with him via text in March and he stated that he believed our new date was available and that he would confirm with this partner. I have been asking since then and no response. My fiance messaged him in July and received a response similar to the one I received stating the date was available and he'd confirm and get our modified contract to us. My fiance followed up with calls to receive nothing back. I sent a text at the beginning of August with an email that following week. When I access our account through his site, our old wedding date of 9/11/2021 is listed. He's on Facebook all the time soliciting and responding to inquires, but his excuse to us in the past has been he's busy. We are ready to shop for other photographers, but we also feel we are due the retainer back as he's been unresponsive. I'm a stressed bride!

As long as you didn’t pay cash you can try reaching out to your bank/credit card company and dispute the charge.

The detainer was nonrefundable so I'm not sure how far you would get with that. But I definitely would start looking for another photographer if they haven't responded in months.

I don’t know what it is about photographers, but they seem to be the most disorganized of the vendors. If I were you, make a few calls of other photographers and see who is available on your date. I wouldn’t cancel until you have another option. Then, I would propose to meet your current photographer in person. Good luck and sorry you’re going through this ❤️

Thank you everyone. I have had two of his clients reach out to me. One stated that he didn't follow through with her session and after numerous contact attempts was refunded her retainer. The other stated she did a session with him months ago and he hasn't been responsive to her requests to see or get her pictures. I think losing the retainer is unfair since its due to him being MIA, but I think we're going to take a loss. I plan to send a final email and possibly a certified letter addressing all of this and moving forward with another photographer. I'm tired of stressing over this at this point.
