Wedding pictures with your dog?

Melanie, on May 4, 2017 at 6:46 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 17

I am dying to have a couple pictures with my dog when I'm in my wedding dress. My FH doesn't want any because he is worried about dog hair so I was thinking about just taking a couple with me before the first look. Has anyone done this or planning to do this? I'm a little bit worried about her accidentally ripping the dress because my dress has a very delicate outer tulle layer. Any advice or suggestions?

I would not take a chance on the dog, I know animals are like family but you have no clue how the dog will act. A hairy dress or a torn or stained dress is not a good look anytime.

As much as I'd love to have our dog be at our ceremony/in some pictures, the logistics just won't work for us or be fair to him. We are going to do our engagement pictures with him instead.

If you can do it though, great!

I'm doing engagement pictures with mine, but I might sneak some getting ready ones too. He's the first man in my life haha and I can't imagine my life without him. Truly my family.

That said, once I'm in my dress, I'm gonna be super extra careful and limit exposure. They are dogs, and things happen, but Im pretty confident one or two pictures will be fine

I'm taking pictures with my dogs! But they don't shed and they are itty bitty.

My dog is like my child, so when we initially started talking about the wedding, my FH immediately knew I would want to include him. We are lucky that our venue will allow him to be a part of our wedding... So he is the "ring bearer". I have a few family members who don't agree with my decision... I've heard the dog hair comment as well... but my dog is my world and I don't care what they think tbh. My dog is super chill though so he will blend in easily.

What kind of dog do you have? Is she high energy? If so, I would try to get her super tired the day prior or if possible, the morning of... have someone take her for a walk or a run... So by the time you take the pictures she will be easier to handle and she won't want to jump up on you. Just a thought. I know when I worked for a doggy daycare, the dogs would always be exhausted after exercise... it may help.

Also, we are going to have a bunch of lint rollers with us in case anyone does get dog hair on them. That's a quick fix for you in case some floats his way. Smiley smile

Our venue allows our dog in the ceremony just not the reception. We are going to be taking pictures as a family before the first look. Just make sure they are on the leash and have someone else hold them while you get into a pose and then the dog can come over.

Our dog was also present for our engagement photos.

I have seen getting ready pictures in a robe but not a wedding dress.

I think if your dog is more likely to jump all over you maybe wait until the end of the night.

Oh! And a good bath with a high powered blow dry works WONDERS with shedding! Most groomers have a great blower that will blow away that fur that is just lingering there! I'm doing that for my dog before my wedding as well. Good luck!!

I wanted to soooo badly but my dog is a golden retriever and would have gotten way too excited. I didn't want to risk him ripping my dress

I wish I could include my fur babies for the wedding! But that sounds like a mission. We included them in our engagement pictures instead and that was a stress in itself.

It can be done. Make sure to have a third party in charge of wrangling him. They can make him sit, then step aside and be ready to grab him if he acts up. However, if your dog regularly jumps up on you, I would be extremely careful and keep him on lead.

Really all that matters is the opinion of you and your FH, but personally as much as I adore dogs and love mine like he's my own blood lol, I think wedding photos with pets are tacky. Thats just my opinion though but I do think your FH pointed out something very valid!

We had them at our engagement pictures. Judging by that, I don't think it's a good idea to have them at the wedding. Mine are usually well behaved but they do get scared with loud noises, and they do tend to eat anything they find and one is prone to get sick. I really want to, but I cant. Maybe have them for your bridal session if you're doing one? Maybe a friend could come help with the dogs and limit time you have to watch them? I don't know.. just a thought. I would hate for there to be an accident and your dress be ruined or you end up having to care for the dog on wedding day. This was one of the better pictures we were able to take- they were so distracted with the surroundings it made it hard to focus.
