Wedding Planner Book - Opinions Needed!

Virginia, on August 23, 2021 at 12:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 15
Hi all!

I just recently got engaged and have been looking at some planners. I would love your opinions on which ones you liked best, pro/con of ones you’ve used, etc. I am currently torn between Erin Condren, The Complete Wedding Planner on Amazon and the Paper Peach planner on Etsy. TIA for all comments 😊

Honestly, I just used the free resources on this website and The Knot, and then I also found a free Google Sheets planning template. The timeline/to do list on The Knot was very helpful in keeping me on track with everything I had to do.

I bought this one from Amazon: The Knot Ultimate Wedding Planner

To be honest, I've used it a little bit - but not too much - I also did what Hannah said and used Google Sheets and free templates!

But, I don't regret buying it lol! I love how cute it is and it's given me a place to organize all my paperwork!

Honestly don’t spend money on any books except Miss Manners Etiquette For Weddings. Go to Target and get a 3 ring binder and clear pockets. Print out the free wedding planning template from Google Sheets which is accessible from any device. The clear pockets hold everything from venue/vendor brochures to paint chips and fabric swatches for color scheme to contracts and other items.

I used three because I like things super organized.

The first one was a regular smallish hardcover planner that I wrote down all my ideas, possible vendors, price ranges and some guest contact info.
The second I got from the first Miss to Mrs box was was great the only thing was that it couldn’t store standard sized paper in it so no contracts, menu options etc.
The third was amazing, it had absolutely everything you could possibly need, was inexpensive and had pockets and tabs for everything. I’ll include a link to it from Amazon.

I bought a wedding planning book but haven't used it much. I've utilized different things from here, The Knot, and I have a super in-depth spreadsheet. I realized I prefer having things that I can pull up at any time instead of having to take the book with me because most of my wedding planning has been done on my down time during work lol.

I have two and I'm supplementing pages I want/notes throughout the larger binder! I purchased both from Etsy:

    1) SMALLER PLANNER: https://www.etsy.com/listing/760285802/greenery-personalized-wedding-planner

    2) LARGER (BINDER SIZED) PLANNER: https://www.etsy.com/listing/824745392/printable-wedding-planner-wedding

The smaller planner didn't have nearly as much "stuff" in it as I wanted, but it's cute, customizable, and has been super easy as my "on hand" planner that I carry everywhere with me, just in case inspiration hits or I need to jot something down quickly. I've also gotten a lot of compliments on it, as I've taken it to meetings, consultations, dress appointments, blah blah blah. The larger planner was a partly DIY project; I printed the pages, then purchased a binder I liked, dividers split up by different areas (ie - reception, stationary, flowers, etc.), included page pockets to safely store contracts and emails in, etc. That pages in the larger planner certainly covered a lot more ground, so I was VERY happy with that, but I've still ended up adding in notes and pages that weren't already included. Still, it's been very helpful and I loved being able to customize both planners -- it felt more personal and more "me," if that makes sense? I use both planners all the time, but that being said, I'm a planner by nature, so it was bound to happen regardless!

I received two that I rarely used: The Knot ultimate Wedding Planner and The Budget -Savvy Wedding Planner.

However the one I got the most use out of was Bridal Bargains 11th edition. It asked questions that other planners didn't and it's checklist was an overall better system. It gave good insight on mistakes most brides make i.e. ordering things late, not photo copying receipts or reading contracts. I also utilized the wedding wire website to organize vendors and guest lists.

I bought a wedding planner. And yes it was really nice and can be added to the box of memories from our wedding. However I really didn't use it that much. The cons: First off it had pages and pages of outlines and planning for the types of wedding we didn't have, so those pages were just waste for me. Since it's a book it isn't customizable for the type of wedding you are having, it has the basic outline for a typical normal wedding. Second it felt like added work and stress to fill it out all the time. Thirdly to carry it around all the time when doing anything for the wedding was just bothersome, because you have to remember to take it with you and you have to carry it around with you. I found the wedding planning apps to be way more easier, your more able to customize your wedding planner, you don't have to remember to bring any additional things with you when doing wedding planning stuff. It's conveniently on your phone and easy to use. The pros: I will have the book to save along side other wedding stuff, and it came with an attached folder for us to put all our documents, receipt, and contracts in.

I have this as well, and it has a lot of really good worksheets which help when it comes to vendor meetings and helping find out what you want.

Also, set up a separate wedding email because every company will spam the hell out of you! It's so much easier also to keep everything in one place.

I also highly recommend Jamie Wolfer on Youtube, she's a wedding planner who has a lot of great content and is amazing.

I love Plum Paper. They have a wedding planner add on that you can put into any of their custom planners.

I tried making my own but after much hair pulling, ended up being lazy and bought one. A friend recommended this wedding planning printable to me, there's close to 100 pages of different templates from the guest list to the seating plan, the payment plan sheet was an absolute life saverSmiley laugh . It really helped me to calm down and get organized Smiley laugh
