Wedding Planner Concerns

MES, on September 23, 2021 at 8:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 2

Hi all!

So, I'm scheduled to get married next Fall. I hired what I THOUGHT was a full service planner in May this year (May 2021) for a multi-day wedding (multicultural wedding.) Her website says "full service" and I'm paying a pretty penny for full service. My problem is since hiring this planner, her and her team have basically been MIA. I reached out about a budget, which I confirmed was in my contract at the end of July and was told I would receive something in the coming weeks. It's now late September and I have received nothing. I reached out over a week ago about the same topic and I was given the excuse that they're moving to a new platform, but now 9 days later I still have nothing.

I know I'm a grown adult and I can create my own budget, but I work full-time AND am a part-time in-person grad student, I hired a planner for a reason. So far I have done all the work on my own. I've spent countless hours researching photographers and videographers. Definitely blown whatever budget I started out with already (110% my fault.)

Anyways, I feel stuck. I know it's the post-COVID wedding season and she and her team are most likely incredibly busy, but the vendors that I want are already booked for my date, so I feel a fire under my behind to hire as many as soon as possible and I am receiving no support from this full time planner. Literally it has been crickets. I hired her over 4 months ago.

What do I do?

Yes, I know this sounds whiny. I apologize, but I'm paying a lot of money for a large wedding and from reading what a planner "should do" i don't feel like i'm being supported enough.

(Had to change my whole WeddingWire profile, so I wouldn't run into someone who works for my planner finding me complaining.)

Reach out to other planners in your area expressing your concerns and see if they are able to accommodate you or push you in the right direction, if you aren’t opposed to a different date if need be

Agree with Michelle about expressing your concern. I'd also set up regular calls to "catch" her, and then follow up at the any subsequent calls regarding any issues you've discussed that she is responsible for.
