Wedding planner contract

Mya, on August 22, 2021 at 11:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hi all! I needed input on what to do with my current situation:

We have hired a wedding planner for a 1 year contract for our wedding. She will be more hands on starting in October. Unfortunately due to the demand in the wedding industry we decided to book everything to secure vendors we wanted (I was unaware of the demand before committing to a 1 year contract). I am curious if it has ever worked out for someone to alter their contract with their wedding planner? I would definitely still love to have her for 6 months or less, or just month of coordination. I just feel like I am kinda wasting my money on such an expensive service for the 1 year contract when there is nothing left to be planned. EVERYTHING is planned from the venue down to the color napkins for the reception. I don't want to offend my planner, but at the same time I don't want to pay all of this money for services I won't receive...please help!

I think if you already signed a contract, there's not much you can do.

You could talk to her and see if she's willing to release you from your contract. Since there are SO many weddings in the next year or two, she can probably replace your day with someone else?

You can approach her with an open mind and ask if she will take payment for services rendered, and some sort of penalty fee to be released from the contract. Or she can come to an agreement that if she gets a new client to fill that time she will release you.

I would definitely at least talk to her and tell her what all you got done so far and that you don't think you need much more help other than month of. Since you already signed a contract there is a chance you'll still have to pay, but if you don't ask the answer will definitely be no, and if you do ask the worst that could happen is she says no. So you might as well at least try to get some money back.
